Como decorrência de atividade empírica, não se estuda o espaço urbano, mas a cidade, entendidos como realidades distintas: se o espaço urbano está concentrado na sua natureza física, até sua construção e planejamento, a cidade supõe a densidade vivida naquele espaço, entendido nos seus desdobramentos sociais, culturais e comunicativos.
