An interconnected account of the progress of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements in Europe has long been needed but has never before been attempted because of the diversity of languages spoken across the continent. This book provides historical, theological and sociological perspectives on European Pentecostalism.
Die freikirchliche Pfingstbewegung in Deutschland wurde von den evangelischen Kirchenleitungen und Theologischen Fakultäten lange Zeit nicht wahrgenommen oder als schwärmerische Sekte abgelehnt. Sie entwickelte sich aber »im Hinterhof der Kirchen« dynamisch und konsequent zu einer neuen evangelischen Freikirche, die von Anfang an ein bemerkenswertes Wachstum zu verzeichnen hatte. Ihre Repräsentanten suchten erst ab 1960 den Dialog mit den anderen Kirchen und Freikirchen, die mittlerweile wahrnahmen, dass sich die Pfingstbewegung innerhalb des 20. Jahrhunderts unerwartet zu einer »dritten kirchlichen Macht« mit einer ökumenischen Dimension entwickelt und mit etwa einer halben Milliarde Anhänger (Pfingstler und Charismatiker zusammen) die orthodoxen Ostkirchen zahlenmäßig übertroffen hat. Die Arbeit würdigt die an dieser Entwicklung beteiligten Personen und ist ein wichtiger Beitrag für eine neue Sicht der Kirchengeschichte in Deutschland.
English summary: This study takes account of the recent history and theology of the worldwide Pentecostal Movement from an intercultural as well as cultural science perspective. The point of reference is the international Pentecostal church Nzambe-Malamu, which originated in the DR Congo. Multiperspectivity is the methodological key to this research. Its analyses comprise a combination of intercultural theological, clerical--historical as well as ecclesiological and ecumenical questions.
