Die Studie setzt sich mit dem Konzept der Bibliodiversität - kultureller Vielfalt bezogen auf das Buchwesen - und seiner Bedeutung im Kontext von Francfort en francais auseinander. Sie klärt, wie Bibliodiversität bei der Umsetzung des Auftritts berücksichtigt wurde, und untersucht dessen Folgen für die Akteur:innen in den beteiligten frankophonen und deutschsprachigen literarischen Feldern, sowie für die Diversität von Übersetzungen aus dem Französischen auf dem deutschsprachigen Buchmarkt. Are Books Still 'Different'?
The famous 1962 precedent at the Restrictive Practices Court of the United Kingdom, 'Books are different,' is still the reasoning behind many cultural policies around the world, building on longstanding assumptions surrounding 'the book'. As this suggests, the 'difference' of the book as a unique form of cultural (rather than economic) production has acquired a powerful status. But are books still different? In (somewhat provocatively) asking this question from a network-oriented and interdisciplinary perspective (book studies/literary studies), this Element inquires into the notion of 'difference' in relation to books. Challenging common notions of 'bibliodiversity,' it reconsiders the lack of diversity in the publishing industry. It also engages with the diversifying potentials of the digital literary sphere, offering a case study of Bernardine Evaristo's industry activities and activism, the Element concludes with thoughts on bookishness, affect and networked practice. A central puzzle in jurisprudence has been the role of custom in law. Custom is simply the practices and usages of distinctive communities. But are such customs legally binding? Can custom be law, even before it is recognized by authoritative legislation or precedent? And, assuming that custom is a source of law, what are its constituent elements? Is proof of a consistent and long-standing practice sufficient, or must there be an extra ingredient - that the usage is pursued out of a sense of legal obligation, or, at least, that the custom is reasonable and efficacious? And, most tantalizing of all, is custom a source of law that we should embrace in modern, sophisticated legal systems, or is the notion of law from below outdated, or even dangerous, today? Banm yon ti limyè: Vergemeinschaftung und Zusammenleben in haitianischen Romanen nach 1986
Haiti ist der Ort, an dem 1804 zum ersten Mal die Sklaverei dauerhaft abgeschafft und damit die Ideale der Französischen Revolution auf radikale Weise weitergedacht wurden. Dieses weltbedeutende Ereignis taucht im öffentlichen Diskurs über Haiti heute nur wenig auf, stattdessen dominieren Superlative der Misere, die dem Land, seiner Literatur und seiner Geschichte nicht gerecht werden. Angesichts dessen möchte diese Studie aus einer post-kolonialen Perspektive einen Beitrag dazu leisten, Haiti als literarischen und Denkraum für ein globales und gerechteres Zusammenleben sichtbar zu machen. Im Fokus stehen dabei vier französischsprachige, haitianische Romane, die nach dem Ende der gewaltvollen Duvalierära (1957-1986) erschienen sind, und die sich auf unterschiedliche Weise Fragen von Vergemeinschaftung und Zusammenleben widmen. Es wird gezeigt, wie die Texte Schlüsselbegriffe der französischen Aufklärung aufgreifen, kommentieren und transformieren, historische Erfahrungen diskutieren und dabei über die Grenzen Haitis hinaus mögliche (neue) Formen des Zusammenlebens entwerfen.
