Luke Robinson, an advertising sales assistant from Camden, saved the World from an alien invasion. That's a fact. Luke Robinson murdered a young man after a night out down the pub. Allegedly. Charges have been made against humanity's saviour and this special hearing is to find out if it's right to send him to trial. And, moreover, if he's actually mentally fit to be tried. As the witnesses testify, the World discovers a little bit more about Luke Robinson before, during and after the invasion. The World will also find out a lot more about the invasion itself. Is the World ready for that kind of truth? Can it handle it?

Early Kentucky Householders, 1787-1811

This is a consolidated list of approximately 34,000 names that appeared in the annual tax lists for Lincoln County, Kentucky, between 1787 and 1811. Forty-six of the fifty-four Kentucky counties that existed in the year 1811 are mentioned in the descriptions of landholdings claimed by Lincoln County householders during this period; in fact, nearly half of the counties were created out of the original Lincoln County boundaries. Thus a Lincoln County tax list can essentially be viewed as a statewide tax list. This is an important consideration because a tax list of this magnitude can actually stand as a substitute for the missing 1790 and 1800 Kentucky censuses. Mr. Sutherland's "householders"...

"Better Living"

""Better Living": Advertising, Media, and the New Vocabulary of Business Leadership, 1935-1955 is a history of how big business learned to be both entertaining and persuasive when talking to the public. Examining the years from the Depression to postwar prosperity, "Better Living" follows the dissemination of a politically competitive claim of "more," "new," and "better" in industry and in life. Beginning with the changes in business-government relations during the New Deal, this study looks at the ways in which politically active corporations and their leaders learned how to speak - at a time when speaking was not enough." "Using archival sources such as the NBC, Ford Motor Company, DuPont,...

One Shot Hitchcock

In One Shot Hitchcock, some of the best writers and thinkers in film studies have taken up the challenge of writing about a single shot from an Alfred Hitchcock film. This book is not only for people who enjoy watching and discussing Hitchcock's films, but for those who wish to discover new ways of writing about the films they love.
