Dum Spiro, Spero: Chambersburg's Black Civil War Soldiers and Sailors
These essays were written by Shippensburg University History majors in 2010 as a class assignment for their required historical research methods course. It was no ordinary class. At the beginning of the course their professor challenged them to uncover the hidden history of the African-American soldiers and sailors buried in Chambersburg's Mt. Vernon and Lebanon Cemeteries. Over the course of the semester, the students located long-forgotten records and pieced together the remarkable stories of these forgotten heroes. These works have been revised and republished to mark the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation, and the 150th anniversary of the United States War Department's issuance of General Order Number 143 on May 22, 1863-the order that established the federal Bureau of Colored Troops.

Convexity and Its Applications
This collection of surveys consists in part of extensions of papers presented at the conferences on convexity at the Technische Universitat Wien (July 1981) and at the Universitat Siegen (July 1982) and in part of articles written at the invitation of the editors. This volume together with the earlier volume «Contributions to Geometry» edited by Tolke and Wills and published by Birkhauser in 1979 should give a fairly good account of many of the more important facets of convexity and its applications. Manga High
Based on a four-year study, Manga High explores the convergence of literacy, creativity, social development, and personal identity in one of New York City’s largest high schools. Since 2004, students at Martin Luther King, Jr., High School in Manhattan have been creating manga—Japanese comic books. They write the stories, design the characters, and publish their works in print and on the Internet. These students—African-American and Latino teenagers—are more than interested in the art and medium of manga. They have become completely engrossed in Japanese language, culture, and society. Manga High is highlighted by reproductions and content analysis of students’ original art and writing. An appendix includes guidelines for educators on starting a comic book club.
