Advances in Computer Systems Architecture
The refereed proceedings of the 12th Asia-Pacific Computer Systems Architecture Conference are presented in this volume. Twenty-six full papers are presented together with two keynote and eight invited lectures. Collectively, they represent some of the most important developments in computer systems architecture. The papers emphasize hardware and software techniques for state-of-the-art, multi-core and multi-threaded architectures.
Mobile Communications
This book constitutes the refereed post-proceedings of the 7th CMDA International Conference, CIC 2002, held in Seoul, Korea, in October/November 2002. The 52 revised full papers presented were carefully selected during two rounds of reviewing and post-conference improvements from 140 conference presentations. Second meeting of the WHO Strategic and Technical Advisory Group working group on access to safe, efficacious and quality-assured health products for neglected tropical diseases
The STAG Working Group on access to safe, efficacious and quality-assured health products for neglected tropical diseases was established in 2021 to facilitate alignment of stakeholders on strategies and best practices for improving access to medicines and other health products for NTDs. The Working Group held its second technical meeting virtually on 19 September 2023. The main outcomes of the meeting were to expand the scope of drug efficacy monitoring to include other neglected tropical diseases and to seek synergy in addressing common issues and challenges across diseases for procurement and supply chain management. In addition to the Working Group’s members, observers, invited guests and the WHO secretariat attended the meeting. This publication contains the report of the meeting and its recommendations to STAG, which will be helpful as a reference and of use to the wider NTD community.
Paediatric drug optimization for neglected tropical diseases
Priority-setting is the first step to enable a targeted approach to research and development. Developing a prioritized drug portfolio of the most needed formulations for children is essential to streamline researchers’ and supplier’s efforts and resources around specific dosage forms and formulations that address most urgent needs for children. Anesthesia for Trauma
Trauma is the leading cause of death among people under the age of 40 and it ranks third for all age groups. Still, relatively few clinicians specialize in trauma and training is often obtained through experience. The number of trauma patients is expected to continue to grow as pre-hospital care continues to advance. As well, hospitals increasingly see trauma treatment, which requires no pre-approval, as a good source of revenue. Given these developments, the number of opportunities for specialists trained in trauma, including anesthesiologists and critical care physicians, will expand in the years ahead. This book addresses the need for an up-to-date, comprehensive and clinically focused volume for practitioners and trainees in trauma anesthesia and critical care. It is organized by organ system. The editor is an attending physician at a major urban hospital center recognized worldwide for its outstanding emergency medical services including trauma care and is recruiting leading trauma anesthesiologists to contribute. Guidelines for the treatment of human African trypanosomiasis
WHO has issued new guidelines for the treatment of human African trypanosomiasis (HAT), also known as sleeping sickness, a fatal disease provoked by a parasitic infection, transmitted by the bite of infected tsetse flies in sub-Saharan Africa. The recent development of a new molecule (fexinidazole) presents an opportunity to improve the therapeutic options. WHO has invested in following these developments, in commissioning independent evidence reviews, and in convening experts to develop new guidelines that reconfigure the therapeutic choices by giving new roles to this new molecule and the previously existing ones, in order to offer the best treatment possible for each type of patient. These guidelines are for the treatment of both disease forms: gambiense HAT, the slowly progressing form, caused by infection with Trypanosoma brucei gambiense, in western and central Africa; and rhodesiense HAT, the more rapidly progressive form, caused by T. b. rhodesiense, in eastern and southern Africa. They supersede the WHO interim guidelines for the treatment of gambiense human African trypanosomiasis, issued in 2019.
