The studies in A Polyethnic Region in East-Central Europe are devoted to the Hungarian minority in Slovakia, examining the altered Hungarian- Slovak relationship from various angles. They analyze the conflicts between Slovak and Hungarian nationalism, the historical stages in the organization of minority selfgovernment, and the system of relations termed the "triadic nexus" by scholars, in which Hungary's attempts at territorial revision and Slovakia's efforts at assimilation often put the Hungarian community in Slovakia in a difficult position.

For many decades, the Holocaust in South-Eastern Europe lacked the required introspection, research and study, and most importantly, access to archives and documentation. Only in recent years and with the significant help of an emerging generation of local scholars, the Holocaust from this region became the focus of many studies. In 2018, under the European Holocaust Research Infrastructure umbrella, the Elie Wiesel National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania organized a workshop dedicated to Holocaust research, education and remembrance in South-Eastern Europe. The present volume is a natural continuation of the above-mentioned workshop with the aim of introducing the current state of Holocaust research in the region to different categories of scholars in the field of Holocaust studies, to students and—why not—to the general public. Our scope, not an exhaustive one, is to present a historical contextualization using archival resources, to display the variety of recordings of discrimination, destruction and rescue efforts, and to introduce the remembrance initiatives and processes developed in the region in the aftermath of the Holocaust.
Offering a unique account of identity formation in Ireland and Central Europe, this book explores and contextualises transfers and comparisons between Ireland and the successor states of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It reveals how Irish perceptions of borders and identities changed after the (re)birth of the small states of Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia and the creation of the Irish Free State. Adopting a transnational approach, the book documents the outward-looking attitude of Irish nationalists and provides original insights into the significance of personal encounters that transcended the borders of nation-states. Drawing on a wide range of official records, private papers, contemporary press accounts and journal articles, Imagining Ireland Abroad, 1904-1945 bridges the gap between historiographies of the East and West by opening up a new perspective on Irish national identity.
The authors review the twentieth-century history of Hungarian communities that became minorities within Czechoslovakia, Romania, Yugoslavia, and Austria after World War I. They trace these developments over ninety years of social, political, economic, and cultural upheaval and examine in detail the relationship between such communities and the majority nations in which they found themselves.
