"With a new introduction by the author"--Jkt.
This book is devoted to one of the fastest developing fields in modern control theory - the so-called H-infinity optimal control theory. The book can be used for a second or third year graduate level course in the subject, and researchers working in the area will find the book useful as a standard reference. Based mostly on recent work of the authors, the book is written on a good mathematical level. Many results in it are original, interesting, and inspirational. The topic is central to modern control and hence this definitive book is highly recommended to anyone who wishes to catch up with important theoretical developments in applied mathematics and control.
This introduction to Atomic and Molecular Physics explains how our present model of atoms and molecules has been developed over the last two centuries both by many experimental discoveries and, from the theoretical side, by the introduction of quantum physics to the adequate description of micro-particles. It illustrates the wave model of particles by many examples and shows the limits of classical description. The interaction of electromagnetic radiation with atoms and molecules and its potential for spectroscopy is outlined in more detail and in particular lasers as modern spectroscopic tools are discussed more thoroughly. Many examples and problems with solutions are offered to encourage readers to actively engage in applying and adapting the fundamental physics presented in this textbook to specific situations. Completely revised third edition with new sections covering all actual developments, like photonics, ultrashort lasers, ultraprecise frequency combs, free electron lasers, cooling and trapping of atoms, quantum optics and quantum information.

Islam is a religion but there are also popular cultures of Islam that are mass mediated, commercialized, pleasure-filled, humorous, and representative of large segments of society. This book illuminates how Muslims (and non-Muslims) in Indonesia and Malaysia make sense of their lives within an increasingly pervasive, popular culture of Islamic images, texts, film, songs, and narratives.
Global and technological transformation is changing work and learning. A broader understanding of prevention and cultural change associated with it is putting new demands on companies and their employees. People and organizations need suitable competences to deal with this transformation. They need to be empowered to shape decent living and working conditions. Safety and Health Competence: A Guide for Cultures of Prevention is written in the context of work and health. The use of a social-constructive and a context sensitive approach to competence in occupational safety and health is new and forms a theoretical basis for putting into place the necessary learning processes for cultural transf...
The final days of World War II serve as the backdrop for this novel by Ismail Marahimin. Fighting has not reached the small Sumatran village of Taratakbuluh, but the quiet, tradition-bound way of life in this remote outpost on the jungles edge has nonetheless been transformed, for the Japanese have chosen it as the site of a prisoner-of-war camp for Dutch internees. And the War is Over is the tensely drawn story of the people of Taratakbuluh and of the Japanese soldiers, Dutch prisoners, and Javanese workers who become, briefly but significantly, a part of their lives. The novel centers on a plot by some of the Dutch prisoners to escape into the jungle but the drama of this planned escape yields to the even more dramatic tension of the human relationships that punctuate the novel.
Historical novel on Indonesia during Dutch rule, ca. 1919.
