System Engineering Applied to Fuenmayor Karst Aquifer (San Julián de Banzo, Huesca) and Collins Glacier (King George Island, Antarctica)
This thesis tackles fundamental questions concerning the discharge of a pre-Pyrenean karst aquifer system and an Antarctic glacier system, utilizing a system engineering methodology and data-driven approach. It presents for the first time a simplified and effective linear transfer function for karst aquifers. The author provides detailed wavelet spectrum results, which reveal certain non-linearities in drought periods. In addition, structures based on Hammerstein-Wiener blocks have yielded a nonlinear model that is substantially more efficient than its linear counterparts. Another pioneering finding is the use of wavelet coherence between glacier discharge and air temperature to estimate SEC (Seasonal Effective Core) boundaries. The yearly SEC is essential to obtaining a model based on Hammerstein-Wiener structures, which offers considerably higher efficiency. Moreover, two different types of glacier dynamics have been discovered (over damped and overshoot), depending on the annual cycle and the SEC average temperature.

Three Gandhari Ekottarikagama-Type Sutras continues the Gandharan Buddhist Texts studies of the first-century A.D. birch bark scrolls in the British Library's Kharosthi manuscript collection. It describes the text found on two fragments which constitute the lower part of a scroll and consists of the remnants of three sutras. All three sutras are relatively short and have an association with the number four, which suggests that they are from a Gandhar- Ekottarikagama, a collection of short discourses grouped according to numerical principles and one of the major collections of writings in the Buddhist canon. Das vorliegende zweibändige "Vollständige Wörterbuch Esperanto-Deutsch" ("Plena Vortaro Esperanto-Germana") umfasst auf ca. 1.500 Seiten mit etwa 150.000 Einträgen den gesamten Esperanto-Wortschatz nicht nur der Alltagssprache mit zahlreichen Wortverbindungen und Anwendungsbeispielen, sondern in relevantem Maße auch aus allen - auch den neu entstandenen - Fachsprachbereichen. Das verarbeitete lexikalische Material geht weit über das des aktuellen einsprachigen Standardwörterbuchs "Nova Plena Ilustrita Vortaro de Esperanto" hinaus. Das Wörterbuch ist das Ergebnis einer mehr als fünfzigjährigen lexikologischen Sammlung und Auswertung umfangreicher Textkorpora, darunter Esperanto-Publikationen aus allen Teilen der Welt, so dass z. B. auch die außereuropäischen Einflüsse auf das Esperanto entsprechende Berücksichtigung finden. Das Wörterbuch berücksichtigt und kennzeichnet den Sprachgebrauch in Österreich und in der Schweiz sowie Regionalismen.
