Bahasa memiliki peran penting dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat, karena bahasa bukan sekedar urutan bunyi yang dapat dicerna secara empiris, tetapi juga kaya dengan makna. Di Indonesia, bahasa Inggris adalah salah satu mata kuliah yang diajarkan di perguruan tinggi. Kegiatan berbicara adalah suatu peristiwa komunikatif yang mencakup penggunaan bahasa verbal dan non-verbal untuk menyampaikan makna. Seperti diungkapkan Chaney, berbicara adalah suatu proses membangun dan berbagi makna melalui penggunaan simbol verbal dan non-verbal, dalam berbagai konteks (Jondeya, 2011). Menurut definisi pendapat ini, kegiatan berbicara bertujuan untuk saling bertukar makna. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, semua orang harus menggunakan artikulator mereka untuk menghasilkan bahasa sehingga mereka dapat mengekspresikan setiap makna kepada orang lain. Selain itu, mereka juga menggunakan simbol non-linguistik seperti ekspresi wajah dan bahasa tubuh mereka untuk membuat maknanya menjadi lebih jelas.

Secara umum buku ini membahas berbagai laporan pengamatan dan studi secara deskriptif terkait dengan implementasi Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter pada jenjang Sekolah Dasar, khususnya di Kota Bandar Lampung.
