"The Third Shift. Andragogical Reflections on the @ktywny Senior Project" is a monograph devoted to the numerous aspects of senior education, all the more valuable, since it is based on experience. Not only does it constitute an example of good practice, but it is also characterised by a scientific approach to the presented information. Representatives of diverse circles and social groups, employees of Lower Silesiannon-governmental organisations, and, last but not least, the seniors who took part in the project - have contributed to the writing of the present book. The seniors themselves are the authors of the title "The Third Shift" which is to symbolise people of advanced age, the third generation, as well as the start of seniors' active participation in social life.
Monografia "Trzecia zmiana. Andragogiczne rozważania na temat projektu @ktywny Senior" jest poświęcona wieloaspektowej edukacji osób starszych, tym cenniejsza, że oparta na doświadczeniach. Stanowi ona nie tylko przykład dobrych praktyk, lecz także cechuje się naukowym podejściem do prezentowanych treści. Do powstania publikacji przyczynili się przedstawiciele różnych środowisk i grup społecznych, pracownicy dolnośląskich organizacji pozarządowych, a przede wszystkim Seniorzy zaangażowani w projekt. To właśnie tym ostatnim przypisać należy autorstwo tytułu "Trzecia zmiana", który symbolizować ma osoby starsze, trzecie pokolenie, a także nastanie czasu aktywnego działania udziału Seniorów w życiu społecznym.

The Ontology of Socialism represents a highly original attempt to examine and define the essential nature of socialism as it existed in Eastern Europe prior to the events of 1989. The empirical material on which the book is based is drawn from a very wide range of sources, but primarily from the Polish experience. Jadwiga Staniszkis' analysis not only significantly advances our understanding of socialist regimes in Eastern Europe, but also provides an invaluable content within which to view current changes in the region. Dr Staniszkis deals with three pivotal paradoxes of the socialist system: the fact that it is a mode of production devoid of genuine economic interests; that it is a political structure where power is devoid of political content; and that it is a social structure devoid of civil society. She also analyses the contradictions of the colonial situation in Eastern Europe, with its two levels of dependency. This book's originality lies in its attempt to generate and use conceptual categories for the analysis of socialism which are not just adaptations of concepts which have been developed to analyse the capitalist system, since often these simply do not apply.
