"Michelle Maher's moving new book builds steadily in emotional depth and resonance. Her poems "settle around us" incrementally - through rich, recurrent, thematic layering. With her, we experience the burdens of family dysfunction; the mirroring fractures of our global history; the fragile consolations of beauty and relationship; and the flickering challenge embodied in our secular and religious saints. The world Maher brings us is a difficult one, yet she leads us through it into light. ~Richard St. John, Author of Each Perfected Name"--

ISO 26000 in Practice

ISO 26000 is a voluntary guidance standard that attempts what no other global standard on social responsibility has: to consolidate in one place the fundamental expectations of organizations regarding their responsibilities to society. Because the standard was developed by a global, multi-stakeholder group—representing more than 90 countries—the standard addresses the wide landscape of social responsibility and provides valuable context for implementation in all types of organizations. This book is structured to help you navigate ISO 26000 and to provide succinct, practical information for implementing its guidance. The book is akin to a GPS that speaks point-to-point guidance as you hel...

Summary of Michael J. Maher's 7L

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 EVT Restaurant is a very nice place. It was the first time Rick had been there, and he was greeted by the enthusiastic greeting of his lunch companion, Michelle. She had been friends with the hostess, Katherine, who had told her about Rick. #2 Rick was meeting with a lender named Michelle to discuss his business problems. He had been having a hard time selling properties lately, and the market was killing him. He felt like a glorified tour guide. #3 It has become very difficult to sell houses these days. Buyers call you, show you their listings, and if you’re lucky, you’ll find one that meets your criteria and buy it. Otherwise, you’re left with Internet leads and Mickey Mouse. #4 The interview went well, and Michelle was very helpful. She explained that they were doing well, but that they were also looking for ways to help local agents market their new first-time home buyer programs.

Machiavelli and the Orders of Violence

Machiavelli and the Orders of Violence

Niccol- Machiavelli is the most prominent and notorious theorist of violence in the history of European political thought - prominent, because he is the first to candidly discuss the role of violence in politics; and notorious, because he treats violence as virtue rather than as vice. In this original interpretation, Yves Winter reconstructs Machiavelli's theory of violence and shows how it challenges moral and metaphysical ideas. Winter attributes two central theses to Machiavelli: first, violence is not a generic technology of government but a strategy that tends to correlate with inequality and class conflict; and second, violence is best understood not in terms of conventional notions of law enforcement, coercion, or the proverbial 'last resort', but as performance. Most political violence is effective not because it physically compels another agent who is thus coerced; rather, it produces political effects by appealing to an audience. As such, this book shows how in Machiavelli's world, violence is designed to be perceived, experienced, remembered, and narrated.

Ethical and Social Issues in Professional Education

This book reflects and extends the great debates that schools, colleges, and universities are having in response to the profound moral conflicts and personal questions facing professionals today: What should we teach our students? What values should we communicate and nurture? What should be the role of the traditional liberal arts in professional education? How should schools and colleges respond to the demands of women and minorities for a more inclusive curriculum? The authors explore ongoing theoretical and practical considerations of graduate professional education through the ethical and social issues facing professionals in public service. Administrators, teachers, counselors, nurses,...

This Is Not About You

For once, these men are the objects; I am the subject. Me, me, me. Rosemary Mac Cabe was always a serial monogamist – never happier than when she was in a relationship or, at the very least, on the way to being in one. But in her desperate search for ‘the one’ – from first love to first lust, through a series of disappointments and the searing sting of heartbreak – she learned that finding love might mean losing herself along the way. This Is Not About You is a life story in a series of love stories. About Henry, with the big nose and the lovely mum, with whom sex was like having a verruca frozen off in the doctor’s surgery: ‘uncomfortable, but I had entered into this willingly’. About Dan, with the goatee. About Luke, who gave her a split condom. About Frank, who was married... But mostly, it’s about Rosemary, figuring out just how much she was willing to sacrifice for her happy ending.
