Business Ethics and Digitization

In this collection, we bring together various disciplines that are critically engaged in reflecting the diverse aspects of digitization in business, politics, ethics, and education. Accordingly, the volume will provide a provocative discourse space, were the key theoretical and practical problems of implementing ethics in digitization will be discussed and assessed. Moreover, we aim to create a bridge between two (hitherto) mostly separate discourses: the ethical discourse of issues of digitization and the discourse on ethical standards and their implementation in the area of business. These discourses are greatly in need of being joined together, since the vast majority of ethical standards in the field of digitization will have to be implemented by companies, not government agencies, NGOs or other non-profit organisations. We believe that this particular selection of articles is a first step towards creating this bridge.

While studies of policy analysis in other countries have assessed their needs and integrated them into training programmes for professional policy analysts, Japanese studies have been very limited. Policy analysis in Japan brings together for the first time a detailed examination of the theory and practice of policy analysis systems in Japan, at different levels. As part of the successful International Library of Policy Analysis series edited by Iris Geva-May and Michael Howlett, the book provides expert analysis to closely examine to what extent the Japanese government has succeeded in providing key policy actors with evidence-informed policy options, thereby improving the likelihood of bet...

This eye-opening book offers a disturbing new look at Japan's post-war economy and the key factors that shaped it. It gives special emphasis to the 1980s and 1990s when Japan's economy experienced vast swings in activity. According to the author, the most recent upheaval in the Japanese economy is the result of the policies of a central bank less concerned with stimulating the economy than with its own turf battles and its ideological agenda to change Japan's economic structure. The book combines new historical research with an in-depth behind-the-scenes account of the bureaucratic competition between Japan's most important institutions: the Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Japan. Drawing on new economic data and first-hand eyewitness accounts, it reveals little known monetary policy tools at the core of Japan's business cycle, identifies the key figures behind Japan's economy, and discusses their agenda. The book also highlights the implications for the rest of the world, and raises important questions about the concentration of power within central banks.

The contributions in this book provide a unique view of its emergence and growth in a number of different national settings in an area of the Third World where the industry is most advanced. In The Political Economy of Japanese Monetary Policy, Cargill, Hutchison, and Ito investigate the formulation and execution of monetary and financial policies in Japan within a broad technical, political, and institutional context.Their emphasis is on the period since the collapse of the Bretton Woods system of fixed exchange rates in the early 1970s, and on the effects of policies and institutions in shaping the modern Japanese economy. The authors present basic themes and recent developments, as well a...

Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism in Man VIII

These volumes record the presentations made at the VIII International Symposium on Purine and Pyrimidine Metabolism in Manheld at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA from May 22- May 27, 1994. This was a continuation of meetings held every three years with the idea of bringing clinicians and basic scientists together, which we hope results in cross-fertilization of ideas. Some of the papers presented in this volume represent oral contributions and others are from posters, but we emphasize that both are considered of equal merit. As is obvious from a perusal of the titles of the papers there has been a shift in the focus of this meeting, which reflects a general shift in the area of purine a...
