Treatment strategies for breast cancer are wide-ranging and often based on a multi-modality approach, depending on the stage and biology of the tumour and the acceptance and tolerance of the patient. They may include surgery, radiotherapy, and systemic therapy (endocrine therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy). Advances in technologies such as oncoplastic surgery, radiation planning and delivery, and genomics, and the development of novel systemic therapy agents alongside their evaluation in ongoing clinical trials continue to strive for improvements in outcomes. In this Special Issue, we publish a collection of studies looking at all forms of therapeutic strategies for early and advanced breast cancer, focusing on their outcomes, notably survival.

Physical Activity, Health Equity and Health-Related Outcomes, Volume II

This Research Topic is Volume 2 in the Physical Activity, Health Equity and Health-Related Outcomes series. There is sufficient scientific evidence on the benefits of physical activity in the prevention and treatment of diseases. However, sedentarism remains one of the biggest health problems worldwide, leading to premature mortality in most if not all populations. It has been shown that physical activity behavior is socially patterned with lower participation rates among women, certain racial and ethnic groups, people with poorer access to education, health care and health insurance, as well as people with physical, mental, and cognitive disabilities and older adults.

(Osteo)Sarcopenia & Sarcopenic Obesity, volume II

Sarcopenia is a geriatric syndrome with progressive loss of mass, quality and function of skeletal muscles associated with aging. Its prevalence may reach 30% for people over 60 in European populations. Sarcopenia is a multifactorial process: some factors lead to the development of sarcopenia and its associated negative effect on physical function. The loss of skeletal muscle fibers secondary to the reduced number of motor neurons appears to contribute significantly to the disorder, which may further include reduced levels of hormones (particularly GH, IGF-1, MGF, and testosterone), lack of protein and calories of the diet, oxidative stress, inflammatory processes etc. Sarcopenia requires a rehabilitation program to improve physical performance but also nutritional interventions: protein supplementation combined with exercise, leucine-enriched amino acids and vitamin D supplementation, as adjunctive therapy.
