Real World Applications of Computational Intelligence

Computational Intelligence (CI) has emerged as a novel and highly diversified paradigm supporting the design, analysis and deployment of intelligent systems. This book presents a careful selection of the field that very well reflects the breadth of the discipline. It covers a range of highly relevant and practical design principles governing the development of intelligent systems in data mining, robotics, bioinformatics, and intelligent tutoring systems. The lucid presentations, coherent organization, breadth and the authoritative coverage of the area make the book highly attractive for everybody interested in the design and analysis of intelligent systems.

Proceedings of the 3rd International Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE 2005)

This volume contains a collection of papers presented at the 3rd Interna tional Symposium on Autonomous Minirobots for Research and Edutainment (AMiRE 2005) that is held at Awara-Spa, Fukui, Japan, September 20-22, 2005. This is a biennial symposium, which started as AMiRE 2001 at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 2001, and was followed by AMiRE 2003 at Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia, in 2003. After these successful symposia, AMiRE 2005 is held under the sponsorship of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Fukui and under the co-sponsorship of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. It is funded by the Fukui Convention Bureau and the University of Fukui. Each full-length paper submitted to the symposium was independently reviewed by 3 referees from the world's front-line researchers, and 55 papers were accepted for oral presentation. We acknowledge generous support for those who gave excellent reviews in order to maintain the high standards of the symposium despite a very tight schedule.

Covenant of Grace (διαθήκη) and Covenant of Works (συνθήκη)

This book identifies two dimensions of covenant. There is a covenant of grace (διαθήκη) and a covenant of works (συνθήκη). Under the covenant of works, the unbeliever receives eternal life (salvation) by believing in Jesus Christ, and the believer is guaranteed eternal life (salvation) by keeping the Word and doing the works. Under the covenant of grace, the unbeliever receives forgiveness of inherited sins by believing; under the covenant of works, the believer receives forgiveness of sins by confessing them. Under the covenant of grace, the unbeliever receives God's unconditional love by believing, and under the covenant of works, the believer receives God's love conditionally by doing.

Multifaceted Biomedical Applications of Graphene

This book explains the fundamental characteristics and biofunctionality of graphene-based nanomaterials and provides up-to-date information on the full range of their biomedical applications. An introductory section gives an overview of the chemical composition and physical properties of graphene and its derivatives as well as their potential toxicity and biosafety. Detailed attention is then devoted to the potential of multifunctional graphene-based nanomaterials (MFGNs) to direct the differentiation of stem cells into specific lineages and induce tissue regeneration. Here, individual chapters address the application of MFGNs for the purposes of neurogenesis, osteo- and chrondrogenesis, myo...

The first IFAC Workshop on Human-Oriented Design of Advanced Robotics Systems (DARS '95) was organized and held in Austria in 1995 because new approaches for advanced robotics systems are expected to be applied in industrial production and other areas in the near future and new ergonomic, social and cultural aspects must be considered if employees are to work with these systems. The workshop provided a forum for researchers to discuss and overview these aspects. This postprint volume contains 33 of the 34 papers presented at the workshop and deals with: bull; system design, especially of man-machine interface, for autonomous, semi-autonomous and tele-operated mode and for tele-existence bull; organizational and social aspects with respect to the environment in which the system is embedded bull; cultural aspects due to different living and working traditions and conditions of the people involved bull; economical aspects
