Der Professorenkatalog erfasst in alphabetischer Reihenfolge alle Professoren, die seit der Grundung 1828 bis zum Jahr 2003 an der TU Dresden und ihren Vorgangereinrichtungen gelehrt haben bzw. lehren. Er stellt ein leicht zu benutzendes, unverzichtbares Nachschlagewerk dar, das die knapp 2.000 Hochschullehrer mit ihrer wissenschaftlichen und beruflichen Vita dokumentiert. Den Lebensbeschreibungen liegen einheitliche Kriterien zugrunde. Eine Auswahl von wissenschaftlichen Veroffentlichungen, gegebenenfalls Bau- oder kunstlerische Werke, rundet jede Kurzvorstellung ab. 50 Hochschullehrer werden aufgrund ihres herausragenden wissenschaftlichen Ranges zudem durch eine Kurzbiografie mit Bild vorgestellt. Damit werden erstmalig alle Professoren einer Universitat in ihrem wissenschaftlichen Werdegang erfasst.
