Aging between Participation and Simulation

With increasing urgency, decisions about the digitalized future of healthcare and implementations of new assistive technologies are becoming focal points of societal and scientific debates and addresses large audiences. Decisions require a careful weighing of risks and benefits and contextualizing in-depth ethical analysis with robust empirical data. However, up to now, research on social assistive technologies is mostly dispersed over different academic fields and disciplines. A comprehensive overview on discussions regarding values at stake and ethical assessment of recent developments especially in healthcare is largely missing. This publication initiates an interdisciplinary discourse on...

The nursing process generally is understood as key element of professional nursing care in Germany. This study follows this argument back to the introduction of the nursing process in the 1970s and 1980s. At that time, the German healthcare system underwent dramatic changes and economic reorganization, which can be understood as the emergence of the neoliberal rationale in Germany. The argument of cost explosion was used to restructure hospitals into enterprises that were to operate based on the logic of the market. Its cybernetic logic made the nursing process an ideal instrument to restructure nursing care. Perspectives of governmentality and critical accounting reveal the nursing process as an accounting tool which has made nursing calculable. And while German nurses valued its potential for professionalization, the findings suggest that a newly constituted accountable nursing vocation can instead be considered as de-professionalizing.

Pflegewissenschaft im interdisziplinären Dialog

English summary: Nursing science is now established in Germany as an academic discipline in its own right, covering all aspects of the discipline including research and education as well as health and occupational policy concerns. It is argued in this volume that meaningful answers to the cumulating problems in the provision of care can only be found by opening up the discipline to new perspectives. The authors seek to explain - programmatically and in other ways - how the potential of creative, fundamental theoretical and empirical work in the context of nursing science can only be fully exploited through communication with other academic disciplines. The contributions - from the fields of ...

Pflegeroboter
