Sanctius' Theory of Language
This volume presents the main tenets of Sanctius linguistic theory and explores the questions raised by Robin Lakoff in her 1969 review of the "Grammaire generale et raisonnee (Port Royal)." Part I surveys earlier developments in the study of language, in particular the Graeco-Roman and Medieval traditions, the Renaissance period, and Judaeo-Arabic scholarship. Part II contains a synopsis in English of Sanctius "Minerva," placing special emphasis on theoretical passages and illustrative data. Part III is devoted to Sanctius linguistic doctrine: (1) his philosophical approach to language analysis, (2) his notion of logical structure and rule, (3) his classification of the parts of speech, and (4) his basic semantic postulates.
Bibliography of Semiotics, 1975-1985
This bibliography of semiotic studies covering the years 1975-1985 impressively reveals the world-wide intensification in the field. During this decade, national semiotic societies have been founded allover the world; a great number of international, national, and local semiotic conferences have taken place; the number of periodicals and book series devoted to semiotics has increased as has the number of books and dissertations in the field. This bibliography is the result of a dedicated effort to approach complete coverage.
History of Linguistics, 1993
The 32 papers of this volume were selected from 78 papers read at ICHoLS VI, were contributed by linguists from 16 countries of Europe, Asia, and the Americas. They are presented in six sections:1. General Concerns 2. Oriental Linguistics and Related Issues 3. From the Early Middle Ages to the End of the 17th Century 4. On 19th-century European Linguistics 5. On the Verge of Modernity: From the 19th to the 20th Century 6. Contemporary IssuesIndividual topics range from dealing with overriding concerns of linguistic historiography to focusing on specific fields of inquiry within a limited frame and involving a large variety of topical areas. Most of the papers are written in English. The exceptions are one French and two German contributions.

These two volume present papers from the Fourth International Conference on the History of the Language Sciences (ICHoLS IV), held at the University of Trier, Germany, in August 1987. The contributions in this volume, a sequel to the volume published in 1986 (SiHoLS 34), treat many aspects of the history of the language sciences in Spain and in Hibero-America, from the Renaissance and ‘Siglo de Oro’ to the 20th century. Most papers were published in the journal Historiographia Linguistica; they were complemented with a few invited papers.

History of Linguistics 1999
This volume represents a selection of 25 out of altogether 86 papers given at the Eighth International Conference for the History of the Language Sciences (ICHoLS VIII), which took place at the Ecole Normale Supérieure at Fontenay-aux-Roses, near Paris, in September 1999. This conference was marked by three new elements: the integration of the study of Amerindian languages into Western linguistics; a particular emphasis on the history of the teaching of (foreign) languages; and new information on the history of linguistics in Eastern Europe during the Soviet era.

The papers in this volume present a colourful picture of the range of research currently being undertaken in the field of the history of linguistics, with contribution both from established scholars and from younger researchers.
