African Dynamics in a Multipolar World
Fifty years after the foundation of the OAU and the consolidation of most African states and institutions, the international panorama and Africa’s position in it have changed considerably. The world's geopolitical and economic configuration has evolved, with new actors appearing in a new period of globalization. In tone with ECAS 2013, this volume proposes that the experiences appearing in Africa question dominant paradigms in terms of political practice and academic reflection and thus offer a clear challenge to the academic community. The volume offers clues to answer questions such as: What is the impact of the current processes of globalization for African countries and African citizens? How should African Studies be engaged to gauge African dynamics, both at a local and global level? What interdisciplinary means and tools should be brought in to produce an epistemologically relevant view (or narrative) of the issues under analysis?

The Story of Däräsge Maryam
The painted church in Darasge Maryam, in the Semen Mountain in northern Ethiopia, is witness to a remarkable event in Ethiopian history. Built by Daggazmac Webe in the 1850s for his coronation, it was not the venue for Webe's coronation, but for the coronation of Tewodros II, who had snatched victory from Webe. However, the art, paintings, liturgical objects and a very precious illuminated manuscript book of Revelation, the commissions and gifts by Webe, can still be seen there today. Dorothea McEwan, Hon. Experiments in Holism Experiments in Holism: Theory and Practice in Contemporary Anthropology presents a series of essays that critically examine the ongoing relevance of holism and its theoretical and methodological potential in today’s world. Contributions from a diverse collection of leading anthropologists reveal how recent critiques of the holistic approach have not led to its wholesale rejection, but rather to a panoply of experiments that critically reassess and reemploy holism. The essays focus on aspects of holism including its utilization in current ethnographic research, holistic considerations in cultural anthropology, the French structuralist tradition, the predominantly English tradition of social anthropology, and many others. They show how God used Ethiopia to ensure the continuation of the chosen people, supporting the kingdom of heaven. There are many prophecies and signs specifically referenced to Ethiopia and the Ethiopian people. "The Catalog of the Ethiopic Manuscript Imaging Project (EMIP), volume 2, provides a full catalog for EMIP codex numbers 106 through 200, and magic scrolls 135 through 284. Each catalog entry for the codices provides a full physical description, a listing of contents (with incipits), illuminations, varia (known works added later), notes on codicology and scribal practice, as well as a full quire map. Opening articles provide an introduction to the collection and its codicology, and an introduction to this set of Ethiopian scrolls of spiritual healing. Seven indices (general, works in the codices, names in the codices, miniatures in the codices, scribal practices, works in the scrolls, and names in the scrolls) provide quick access for researchers."
