Few reference works in philosophy have articles on hope. Few also are systematic or large-scale philosophical studies of hope. Hope is admitted to be important in people's lives, but as a topic for study, hope has largely been left to psychologists and theologians. For the most part philosophers treat hope en passant. My aim is to outline a general theory of hope, to explore its structure, forms, goals, reasonableness, and implications, and to trace the implications of such a theory for atheism or theism. Bringing Political Participation Into the 21st Century
Bringing Political Participation into the 21st Century argues that political participation has lagged behind general developments since 1989 and proposes remedies for that deficiency. The work consists of five parts: the challenge; the big picture; the grassroots; motivations, doubts and objections; and the conclusion. It also introduces a conceptual framework in graphic form to demonstrate the benefits of the Internet, and how it decreases participation costs. Other themes and case studies include: the case for improving political participation; milestones in political participation to date; regional perspectives, including country studies featuring recent developments in e-participation; participation in municipalities; the role of NGOs; contributions by exceptional individuals; the decline in voter turnout in recent decades and ways to address it; differences in political cultures; differences in participation rates between elections for junior vs. senior levels of government; progress in e-government; and a framework for analysis to provide benchmarks for measuring progress in political participation.

Development of a MATLAB/Simulink Framework for Phasor-Based Power System Simulation and Component Modeling Based on State Machines
Im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit wird ein Algorithmus vorgestellt, der spannungsabhängige Einspeisung von Wirk- und Blindleistung in den Lastfluss-Algorithmus integriert. Es wird eine Beschleunigung von bis zu einer Größenordnung gegenüber dem derzeit gängigen Verfahren, und eine verbesserte Robustheit erreicht. Im zweiten Teil wird ein Phasor-Framework zur dynamischen Simulation von Stromnetzen vorgestellt. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf einem Photovoltaik-Modell welches das dynamische P(V), Q(V) und P(f) Verhalten nach VDE 4105 im Bereich Sekunden bis Minuten abbildet. Im vierten Teil wird das entwickelte Phasor-Framework verwendet, um das Wiederzuschaltverhalten von Photovoltaikanlagen in einem dieselbetriebenen Inselnetz in der Niederspannung zu untersuchen. Die Untersuchung zeigt, dass ein periodisches Ab- und Abschalten von Photovoltaikanlagen vorkommen kann.
