Classical And Quantum Dynamics In Condensed Phase Simulations: Proceedings Of The International School Of Physics
The school held at Villa Marigola, Lerici, Italy, in July 1997 was very much an educational experiment aimed not just at teaching a new generation of students the latest developments in computer simulation methods and theory, but also at bringing together researchers from the condensed matter computer simulation community, the biophysical chemistry community and the quantum dynamics community to confront the shared problem: the development of methods to treat the dynamics of quantum condensed phase systems.This volume collects the lectures delivered there. Due to the focus of the school, the contributions divide along natural lines into two broad groups: (1) the most sophisticated forms of the art of computer simulation, including biased phase space sampling schemes, methods which address the multiplicity of time scales in condensed phase problems, and static equilibrium methods for treating quantum systems; (2) the contributions on quantum dynamics, including methods for mixing quantum and classical dynamics in condensed phase simulations and methods capable of treating all degrees of freedom quantum-mechanically.

This book presents an important reflection on the concept and limits of the Fundamental Right to Health as opposed to a supposed “Right to Hope” in the context of the treatment of patients with advanced cancer. The central idea of the work is the question of whether and to what extent patients with advanced cancer have the right to legally demand a palliative treatment whose efficacy has not been proven from the point of view of the desired objectives. Transcendência como Mecanismo de Filtro Recursal
O instituto da transcendência no recurso de revista foi recém-regulado em nosso ordenamento jurídico. Nesse contexto, impõe-se uma análise crítica acerca das origens, de sua natureza e de sua aplicação no âmbito do Tribunal Superior do Trabalho. Frente à crise do Direito, com a massificação das relações jurídicas, esse filtro de relevância propõe critérios de racionalização judicial, revitalizando as funções tradicionais de um recurso de natureza extraordinária, quais sejam, a nomofilácica e a uniformizadora. Assim, a Corte Superior Trabalhista, em tese, geraria respostas mais céleres, deixando de atuar como terceira instância recursal e assumindo papel institucional consentâneo com as necessidades atuais da sociedade. A sua aplicação prática, entretanto, tem revelado diversas dificuldades e atecnias que comprometem a eficácia do instituto, exigindo o debate acerca dos caminhos pelos quais deve evoluir.
Primate Life Histories, Sex Roles, and Adaptability
Professor Linda M. Fedigan, Member of the Order of Canada and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, has made major contributions to our understanding of the behavioural ecology of primates. Furthermore, Linda Fedigan pioneered and continues to advance scholarship on the role of women in science, as well as actively promoting the inclusion of women in the academy. A symposium in honour of her career was held in Banff (Alberta, Canada) in December 2016, during which former and current students and collaborators, as well as scientists with similar research interests, presented and discussed their work and their connections to Linda Fedigan. These presentations and discussions are here presented as chapters in this festschrift.
