Walters' role as intelligence statesman clearly and early transcended his military roots and established a strong precedent for the instrumental unification of political strategy and intelligence in foreign affairs.

The paper considers the question of information imperfections. The aim is to prove the hypothesis that economic agents make decisions based on imperfect information. In order to do so, it uses correlation between a measure of price dispersion and inflation rates, which are a proxy of the information stock held by agents. Those in favor of the perfectly informed agents theory argue that price dispersion reflects perceived differences in factors like quality, location, market structure and service agreement. If this is correct, changes in price dispersion would occur only if there were changes in these factors. If they are not altered and price dispersion changes, one can come to the conclusio...

Overlapping Regional Organizations in South America and Africa

This book discusses the interaction between and the impact of overlapping actions by regional organizations while dealing with critical events. It compares all the sub-regions in South America and Africa from this perspective and creates new knowledge through cross-regional gleanings. The book analyses types of institutional interaction among regional organizations and the effects of overlapping actions on the coexistence or fracturing of regional processes. It examines and compares the dynamics of these interactions in both South America and Africa. The book contributes to the study of comparative regionalism by providing generalization and institutional learning based on a cross-regional approach. It gives to students, researchers and interested readers an understanding of the complexity of regional affairs in multi-organizational environments.

This ground-breaking volume is a follow-up to Intellectuals and Their Publics. In contrast to the earlier book, which was mainly concerned with the activity of intellectuals and how it relates to the public, this volume analyses what happens when sociology and sociologists engage with or serve various publics. More specifically, this problem will be studied from the following three angles: How does one become a public sociologist and prominent intellectual in the first place? (Part I) How complex and complicated are the stories of institutions and professional associations when they take on a public role or tackle a major social or political problem? (Part II) How can one investigate the relationship between individual sociologists and intellectuals and their various publics? (Part III) This book will be of interest to academics and students working in the fields of the sociology of knowledge and ideas, the history of social sciences, intellectual history, cultural sociology, and cultural studies.
