Considerable progress has been made in the use of corpora for research purposes to describe language in use, and more recently, through a CADS (corpus assisted discourse studies) approach, to identify the discourse features of specific text genres. The Languages of Politics/La politique et ses langages provides a multifaceted view of major approaches to the study of political discourse from an interdisciplinary perspective. To date, most contributions to the analysis of political discourse have come from the fields of rhetoric, (critical) discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics, pragmatics, lexicology, lexicography, and, more recently, multimodal discourse analysis. The papers in this volume build their investigations on these perspectives, and provide new and diversified insights into this vast area of research. Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies on the Iraq Conflict
This volume illustrates the role of language in political action by analyzing the discourse of various British and US institutions on the war in Iraq. It combines quantitative methods, based on a sophisticated modular corpus in order to identify regularly occurring lexical and semantic patterns, and qualitative context-based discourse analysis.
Language, Culture and the Law
The volume presents a set of invited papers based on analyses of legal discourse drawn from a number of international contexts where often the English language and legal culture has had to adjust to legal concepts very different from those of the English law system.
