Visions, Prophecies and Divinations is an introduction to the vast and complex phenomena of prophecy and vision in the Spanish and Portuguese Empires. Portuguese Trade in Asia Under the Habsburgs, 1580–1640
This fascinating history reassesses the consequences of Portugal's flourishing private trade with Asia, including increased tensions between the growing urban merchant class and the still-dominant landed aristocracy. James C. Boyajian shows how Portuguese-Asian commerce formed part of a global trading network that linked not only Europe and Asia but also—for the first time—Asia, West Africa, Brazil, and Spanish America. He also argues that, contrary to previous scholarly opinion, nearly half of the Portuguese-Asian trade was controlled by New Christians—descendants of Iberian Jews forcibly converted to Christianity in the 1490s.

Estudo da moralidade iorubá, isto é, as práticas, as religiosidades e os modos de pensar, que influenciou diferentes povos da diáspora africana que vieram para o Brasil, através de um paralelismo entre alguns entrevistados – sacerdotes do candomblé, acerca de certas regras de convivência para o bem comum e a ideia da morte que se correlaciona com tais regras. Levando, assim, em conta o protagonismo negro, exemplificado na cultura e nas religiosidades afro-brasileiras, a luta contra a intolerância religiosa, a descolonização do currículo escolar e a inserção de práticas interculturais e da ética da alteridade no ensino. Dessa forma, trazendo a discussão de novos conhecimentos africanos e afro-brasileiros que podem contribuir dentro do currículo escolar de Ciências Humanas, seguindo as Leis no 10.639/03 e 11.645/08 sobre a cultura e a história africana, afro-brasileira e indígena.

This study analyzes the establishment of an iron foundry in the interior 18th-century of Angola. It was a fruit of the Portuguese Enlightenment, which encouraged investment in manufacturing, particularly of iron, a metal indispensable for military and technological purposes. However, the plans faced the resistance of African blacksmiths and founders who refused to learn foreign techniques and work processes. By emphasizing Central African agency, the book highlights the successful strategies of historical actors who scholars have largely ignored.
