Untersuchungen zur Sprachverwendung der politischen Linken Spaniens
Die Sprachverwendung der politischen Linken in Spanien ist bisher in nur wenigen Studien analysiert worden. Auch auf die Frage, ob es überhaupt einen charakteristischen 'linken' Sprachgebrauch gibt, dessen sich die Angehörigen linker Parteien bedienen, gibt es bisher keine eindeutige Antwort. Gegenstand der Studie ist ein zentrales Charakteristikum linken Sprachgebrauchs: die Versprachlichung von (progressiver) Politik als Fort- bzw. Rückschritt oder Stillstand. Die Auswertung basiert auf einem Korpus, das sowohl Wahlprogramme als auch Parteizeitungen des Partido Socialista Obrero Español sowie des Partido Comunista de España bzw. der Izquierda Unida aus mehreren Jahrzehnten berücksichtigt. Die formale, semantische und funktionale Analyse der zahlreichen Beispiele gibt grundlegende Aufschlüsse über verschiedene Strategien des Besetzens und Instrumentalisierens von Begriffen sowie über die parteispezifische Verwendung von Schlagwörtern und Metaphern im Rahmen der politischen Kommunikation.

A Longing for Wide and Unknown Things
Alexander von Humboldt was the most admired scientist of his day. But the achievements for which he was most celebrated in his lifetime always fell short of perfection. When he climbed the Chimborazo, then believed to be the highest mountain in the world, he did not quite reach the top; he established the existence of the Casiquiare canal, between the great water systems of the Orinoco and the Amazon, but this had been well known to local people; and his magisterial work, Cosmos, was left unfinished. This was no coincidence. Humboldt's pursuit of an all-encompassing, immersive approach to science was a way of finding limits: of nature and of the scientist's own self. A Longing for Wide and Unknown Things portrays a scientific life lived in the era of German Romanticism - a time of radical change, where the focus on the individual placed a new value on feeling, and the pursuit of personal desires. As Humboldt himself admitted, he 'would have sailed to the remotest South Seas, even if it hadn't fulfilled any scientific purpose whatever'.
The Post/Colonial Museum
The African museum landscape is changing. A new generation of scholars and curators is setting international standards for the reappraisal and revision of colonial collections, the conception of curatorial spaces, and the integration of new groups of actors. In the face of the ghostly survival of colonial epistemologies in archives, displays, and architectures, it is a matter of breaking up institutional encrustations and infrastructures, inventing new museum practices, and bringing archives to life. Scholars and museum experts predominantly working in Africa and South America discuss the post/colonial history of museums, their political-economic entanglements, the significance of diasporic objects, as well as the prospects for restitution and its consequences. The contributions to this issue of ZfK are all presented in English.
