Dieses Werk widmet sich der Frage, ob Normen des bisher von der EU bestimmten Verbraucherkredit- und AGB-Rechts beibehalten oder geändert werden sollten. Eine historische Analyse beantwortet die Frage, inwieweit EU-Recht in der Vergangenheit durch das Vereinigte Königreich gestaltet und rezipiert wurde. Auf Grundlage einer umfassenden rechtsvergleichenden Betrachtung wird zudem analysiert, ob alternative europäische Kooperationsmodelle mehr regulatorischen Freiraum bieten und die (Nicht-) Umsetzung von Verbraucherrecht als Vorbild für neue Regulierung im Vereinigten Königreich dienen könnte.
A Contested Nation
This book examines the ways in which the Swiss defined their national identity in the long nineteenth century, in the face of a changing domestic and international background. Its narrative begins in 1761, when the first Swiss patriotic society of national significance was founded, and ends in 1891, when the Swiss celebrated their 600-year existence as a nation in a monumental national festival. While conceding that the creation of a nation-state in 1848 marked a watershed in the history of Swiss nation-formation, the author does not focus one-sidedly - as many others have done - on the activities of the nationalizing state. Instead, he attributes a key role to the competitive and contentious struggles over the shaping of public institutions and over the symbolic representation of the nation. These struggles, to which the nation-state and civil society contributed in equal measure, were framed increasingly along national lines.

Jews in German Literature since 1945
This volume contains some 46 essays on various aspects of contemporary German-Jewish literature. The approaches are diverse, reflecting the international origins of the contributors, who are based in seventeen different countries. Holocaust literature is just one theme in this context; others are memory, identity, Christian-Jewish relations, anti-Zionism, la belle juive, and more. Prose, poetry and drama are all represented, and there is a major debate on the controversial attempt to stage Fassbinder’s Der Müll, die Stadt und der Tod in 1985. The overall approach of the volume is an inclusive one. In his introduction, the editor calls for a reappraisal of the terms of German-Jewish discourse away from the notion of ‘Germans’ and ‘Jews’ and towards the idea that both Jews and non-Jews, all of them Germans, have contributed to the corpus of ‘German-Jewish literature’.
