Este texto recoge los trabajos del Congreso Internacional de Literatura Medellín Negro del 2018 y de colaboradores invitados para resolver preguntas como: ¿cuáles son las representaciones de la república o la democracia en las novelas contemporáneas? ¿cuáles son los casos de violencia en estos modelos de organización social? , ¿cuál es el papel de la mujer en el mundo social de la novela de crímenes contemporánea?. Principios como: el imperio de la ley y la soberanía nacional sirven para entender los mecanismos de violencia y discriminación contra las mujeres, minorías étnicas, trabajadores o intelectuales.
