Conservation Science is a rather innovative application of instrumental analysis with steadily increasing importance. Although the first attempts for preserving material from the cultural heritage on a scientific basis are found in the 19th century pioneer chemistry years, only the use of sophisticated physicochemical techniques results in effective identification and deterioration studies of monuments and objects, and in reliable intervention procedures. This volume allows to gain solid knowledge and improved skills on the ways separation schemes and diagnostic methodologies are applied in the safeguarding and authentication of tangible works of art; as well as on the modes of implementing ...

It is well known that Flaubert harboured an obsessive hatred of the bourgeois and his mentality which erupts constantly and explosively in his correspondence, informs large parts of the works set in his own time, Madame Bovary, L'Education sentimentale, Un Coeur simple and Bouvard et Pecuchet and even overflows into Salammbo and his theatrical experiments. Since most of his thought and writing is so visibly and vitally affected by this obsession, it seems valuable to investigate its origins, its development and its significance for his art. That is the aim of this study which begins with a look at representations of the bourgeois in French literature before Flaubert and goes on to examine in detail what proves to be a more complex phenomenon than might at first sight appear.

This Special Issue is dedicated to recent advances in natural products chemistry related to metabolites and microbiomes. In the present Special Issue, the following topics have been covered: • Isolation of novel microbial compounds using metabolomic approaches; • Molecules and metabolomes related to agricultural applications (crop and animal productions); • Microbiomes and related natural products with beneficial effects in agriculture; • Plant metabolites with bioactive properties; • Influence of beneficial microbes and/or their metabolites on plant metabolomes; • Microbial metabolites involved in plant or animal interactions; • Influence of production technologies on animal metabolomes and microbiomes.
The continuous effort to perform a more sustainable chemistry has led to the development of new materials that accomplish the principles of green chemistry. In this context, deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have arisen as a new generation of solvents that respond well to most of the characteristics that an ideal green solvent must possess: they are easy and cheap to prepare, stable, easy to handle (they show chemical stability, non-flammability and conductivity), separable from the reaction products, biodegradable and safe for both humans and the environment. At the same time, they show chemical-physical properties similar to ionic liquids, such as low volatility, conductivity and high solvent ...
From the mid-1960s to the mid-80s, feminist activism in North America and Europe reached its peak. But responses to the issues and ideas that animated feminism were by no means homogeneous. Frontiers of Feminism combines feminist materialism and social movement theories to explore the principal ideological concerns of Québécois and Italian feminists, including Marxism, nationalism, Third World liberation discourse, and counter-cultural narratives. Identifying the convergences in and differences between these themes, Jacinthe Michaud reveals the synergy between feminism and the left, especially the New Left, and highlights the influence of American and French women’s movements on those in Québec and Italy. By revisiting struggles such as the right to abortion, health and sexuality, wages for housework, and the quest for autonomy from masculine thought, Frontiers of Feminism brings new insights to the recent history of feminist movements and an international perspective to major themes, strategies, and modes of organizing.
