The Meaning of Otherness in Education
The notion of otherness, often misused, requires important conceptualization work in order for it to be considered in all of its forms, and not simply reduced to the account of others. Although otherness certainly questions the link to the other (relation), it also questions the link to the self (reflexivity) and the link to knowledge (epistemology). Being tridimensional, the process of otherness is a paradox, the meaning of which can only be drawn thanks to ethics, psychoanalytical orientation and the history of philosophical ideas. This book, which relates to philosophy of education, seeks to explain the problematic notion of otherness, the desire for which is specific to humankind. It examines how otherness questions the limits of knowledge, transmission and language, and argues that it is in fact a value, a tool and practice for all the actors involved in the relationship between education, knowledge and care.

Infants, Parents and Wet Nurses
This volume examines early Islamic theories and practices of breastfeeding, their long-term social implications and their impact on the lives of women and children. In the light of the impediments to marriage created, according to Islamic law, by nonmaternal breastfeeding, the author also explores the role they have played in wider circles of social life: how they influenced the way relations between different families were established, reduced the occurence of endogamous marriages, and created semiprivate spaces. This is the first comprehensive research, within western Islamology, devoted to the subject, serving as it were as a link between Women's History and History of Childhood. Social Alternatives in Southern Europe and Latin America
This book deals with the evolution of initiatives connected to the social and solidarity economy and their political cultures and educational implications in the south of Europe and in Latin America. La description a été jusqu'à présent principalement étudiée en référence au récit, essentiellement littéraire, et à l'enseignement du français, dans une perspective typologisante. Cet ouvrage, qui s'inscrit dans un projet de recherche de l'équipe de didactique du français de Lille III (THEODILE), tente, à partir de contributions de spécialistes de différentes disciplines, de repenser la description au travers de quatre entrées : celle de sa définition (statut, organisation, fonctions, tensions internes, inscription générique) ; celle de son fonctionnement dans les pratiques de recherche (linguistique, psychologie, sociologie, médecine...) ; celle de sa place et des problèmes qu'elle soulève en formation et notamment dans les mémoires professionnels ; celle de son importance, de ses effets postulés et des difficultés rencontrées dans les disciplines scolaires autres que le français (histoire et géographie, sciences, langues...).
