Finding Zola

Almost a year ago, a car accident changed Crystal's life. The accident killed Crystal's father and left her in a wheelchair. Now, Crystal and her mother are staying at the home of Grandmother Emilia, who has just passed away. They face the painful task of sorting through Gram's possessions—and their own memories. Then Crystal's mother, an artist, is offered an unexpected chance to exhibit her work at a gallery in New Mexico—an opportunity she can't afford to turn down. While her mother is gone, Crystal is left in the care of Zola, a friend of her grandmother's. One day Zola suddenly disappears. A series of alarming incidents convinces Crystal that she must find Zola as quickly as possible. Two mysteries escalate simultaneously in Marianne Mitchell's vividly written novel. The question "Where's Zola?" forces Crystal to confront another, equally baffling question: Now that her life has changed so dramatically, who is Crystal?

Juvenile Firesetting

The study assessed the psychometric properties of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) questionnaires (Family Fire Risk Interview Form, Juvenile Fire Risk Interview Form, Parent Fire Risk Interview Form) used to record juvenile firesetting events. It also attempted to identify characteristics of firesetters, determine a basis for the variation in the severity of fires set, and determine the chance of recidivism. Specific types of firesetters exhibit a range of different characteristics. Maturational and environmental factors are implicated. Recommends that future examinations of this subject should include an examination of the firesetter's history, including cognitive and behavioural reviews, and parent and family influences and stressors.

The Istanbul Ring

In a gripping tale spanning seven decades and three continents, the story of a strange ring unfolds and with it the story of the people whose lives will be irrevocably changed by owning it. The mystery begins with the unsolved murder of historian Dr Charles Gibson at his home in Edinburgh. Meanwhile, two thousand miles away in Rome, a passionate love affair ends in ignominious dismissal for former British diplomat Angharad Wilson when her lover is exposed as a field operative for the Iranian Intelligence Services. Exonerated from a potential charge of treason but not reinstated Angharad is unemployed. Caught in the lining of a coat she buys from a charity shop she finds an ugly but clearly valuable gold ring. Her search for the owner will take her from Edinburgh’s New Town to Istanbul. It will set her on the trail of former Waffen SS Officer Hans Peter von Seidel, wanted for major war crimes, but forced out of hiding in a desperate attempt to retrieve the ring; and to her final, terrifying encounter with him.

You Have to Say Something

Dainin Katagiri (1928–1990) was a central figure in the transmission of Zen in America. His first book, Returning to Silence, emphasized the need to return to our original, enlightened state of being, and became one of the classics of Zen in America. In You Have to Say Something, selections from his talks have been collected to address another key theme of Katagiri's teaching: that of bringing Zen insight to bear on our everyday experience. "To live life fully," Katagiri says, "means to take care of your life day by day, moment to moment, right here, right now." To do this, he teaches, we must plunge into our life completely, bringing to it the same wholeheartedness that is required in Zen meditation. When we approach life in this way, every activity—everything we do, everything we say—becomes an opportunity for manifesting our own innate wisdom. With extraordinary freshness and immediacy, Katagiri shows the reader how this wisdom not only enlivens our spiritual practice but can help make our life a rich, seamless whole.
