Toward an Archaeology of Buildings
This volume is an expos of building archaeological research works and building restorations. It is well known that buildings and their restorations mirror the dynamics of societies. Whether as a single monument, clustered in villages, towns, or cities, or even as single rooms or spaces, buildings and restorations result from socio-economic, political, or ideological power or expressions. But there are many different ways of looking at buildings and restorations in this respect, as the authors of this volume show. The 10 papers are presented in chronological order from ancient to modern times and the sites and areas under discussion include Crete, Mycenae, Pompeii, Scandinavia, Jamaica (Spanish Town) and Tongaat, South Africa.

Progress in Colour Studies
This volume presents authoritative and up-to-date research in colour studies by specialists across a wide range of academic disciplines, including vision science, psychology, psycholinguistics, linguistics, anthropology, onomastics, philosophy, archaeology and design. The chapters have been developed from papers and posters presented at the Progress in Colour Studies (PICS2016) conference held at University College London in September 2016. The chapters are grouped into three sections: Colour Perception and Cognition; The Language of Colour; and The Diversity of Colour. Zu mehreren, vor allem inhaltlich klar umgrenzten Teilbereichen der epigraphischen Zeugnisse in Pompeji und Herculaneum liegen bereits ertragreiche Publikationen vor. Der Aspekt des Kontextes und die archäologische Integration in den architektonischen und urbanen Befund des Straßenraumes bleibt dabei jedoch meist außen vor. Hier setzt die vorliegende Arbeit an, um die verschiedenen Inschriften als zeit- und raumspezifische Artefakte verständlich zu machen. Im Zentrum stehen das Vorgehen und Verhalten der Schreiber, Leser und Betrachter, die kommunikativen Funktionen und die Rezeption von Inschriften im öffentlichen Raum, die Beziehung zwischen Form und Inhalt der Inschriften sowie deren Kontexte, mit ihnen verknüpfte Praktiken ihre Wahrnehmung.
