Memorias de una época
En los años sesenta y setenta en Colombia una generación de jóvenes expresó en las universidades ideales y sueños de revolución. Si bien la memoria social de esta época aún está por investigarse y escribirse, este libro es un primer esfuerzo académico por recopilar y analizar testimonios de estudiantes, docentes y personas que participaron o fueron testigos de las movilizaciones universitarias estudiantiles de aquellos años. Hoy estas expresiones juveniles con sus improntas de rebeldía, violencias y radicalismos de izquierda o de derecha son una página olvidada en el acontecer nacional, sobre todo por la historiografía que no ha prestado suficiente atención al tema. Proclamas de justicia, acciones de lucha, consignas de equidad, exclamaciones de libertad son compartidas por la memoria social de una generación que intentó hacer ruptura con ideas, valores y atributos de la tradición.
Stream Ecology
Most of the papers included here were part of the Plenary Sym posium on The Testing of General Ecological Theory in Lotic Ecosys tems held in conjunction with the 29th Annual Meeting of the North American Benthological Society in Provo, Utah, April 28, 1981. Sev eral additional papers were solicited, from recognized leaders in certain areas of specialization, in order to round out the coverage. All of the articles have been critiqued by at least two or three re viewers and an effort was made to rely on authorities in stream and theoretical ecology. In all cases this has helped to insure accur acyand to improve the overall quality of the papers. However, as one of our purposes has been to encourage thought-provoking and even controversial coverage of the topics, material has been retained even though it may upset certain critical readers. It is our hope that these presentations will stimulate further research, encourage the fuller development of a theoretical perspective among lotic ecologists, and lead to the testing of general ecological theories in the stream environment.
Borrowing Costs and The Role of Multilateral Development Banks: Evidence from Cross-Border Syndicated Bank Lending
Cross-border bank lending is a growing source of external finance in developing countries and could play a key role for infrastructure financing. This paper looks at the role of multilateral development banks (MDBs) on the terms of syndicated loan deals, focusing on loan pricing. The results show that MDBs' participation is associated with higher borrowing costs and longer maturities---signaling a greater willingness to finance high risk projects which may not be financed by the private sector---but it is also associated with lower spreads for riskier borrowers. Overall, our findings suggest that MDBs could crowd in private investment in developing countries through risk mitigation.
