Heterogeneous Photocatalysis

The series Topics in Current Chemistry Collections presents critical reviews from the journal Topics in Current Chemistry organized in topical volumes. The scope of coverage is all areas of chemical science including the interfaces with related disciplines such as biology, medicine and materials science. The goal of each thematic volume is to give the non-specialist reader, whether in academia or industry, a comprehensive insight into an area where new research is emerging which is of interest to a larger scientific audience. Each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments o...

Optimizing photocatalysts and photoreactors for solar fuel synthesis

The work represents a toolbox for the design of a highly efficient photocatalytic process for solar-driven synthesis. The focus is the optimization of photoreactors and photocatalysts. The described photoreactor design strategy is based on numerical methods mapping radiation transport and additive manufacturing delivering prototypes. The photocatalyst engineering is based on suitable photocatalyst support strategies and a method for the determination of the quantum yield in photoreactions.

Innovative and Hybrid Technologies for Wastewater Treatment and Recycling investigates the biological and non-biological features of the treatment process for wastewater and emphasizes the benefits that these aspects bring for sustainable engineering. It discusses several approaches that are based on biological and non-biological processes and examines the fundamental principles, practical applications, current achievements, future aspects, and associated limits. Further, it provides a wide range of innovative research on the treatment of wastewater, as well as the applications in the treatment, remediation, and pollution prevention processes. Explains the principles and concepts of the most recent and innovative treatment processes for wastewater remediation. Examines emerging nanofiber technology for the purification of wastewater. Provides an overview of the most cutting-edge environmentally friendly technologies.

African Mexicans and the Discourse on Modern Nation

In African Mexicans and the Discourse on Modern Nation, author Marco Polo Hern ndez Cuevas explores how the Africaness of Mexican mestizaje was erased from the national memory and identity and how national African ethnic contributions were plagiarized by the criollo elite in modern Mexico. The book cites the concept of a Caucasian standard of beauty prevalent in narrative, film, and popular culture in the period between 1920 and 1968, which the author dubs as the "cultural phase of the Mexican Revolution." The author also delves into how criollo elite disenfranchised non-white Mexicans as a whole by institutionalizing a Eurocentric myth whereby Mexicans learned to negate part of their ethnic makeup. During this time period, wherever African Mexicans, visibly black or not, are mentioned, they appear as "mestizo," many of them oblivious of their African heritage, and others part of a willing movement toward becoming "white." This analysis adopts as a critical foundation Richard Jackson's ideas about black phobia and the white aesthetic, as well as James Snead's coding of blacks.
