Stylianos Schicho
Viennese artist Stylianos Schicho depicts both animals and humans in his large-scale works as he addresses the phenomenon of ìbeing watchedî in contemporary society. His fragmentary visual worlds voice criticism of issues such as capitalism and consumerism. The observer becomes the observed when scrutinised by the oversized eyes. Or in the words of the artist: "There is always someone missing from the picture and that is the person who is standing in front of it." Schichoís works are a blend of painting and drawing. Dieser Band bietet erstmals die vollständige "Apologie" des Lukian von Samosata (2. Jh. n. Chr.) zusammen mit einer Einführung, einer adäquaten Übersetzung sowie hilfreichen kulturgeschichtlichen, literaturwissenschaftlichen sowie philologischen Erläuterungen. Dabei kann die "Apologie" als zentrale literarisch-rhetorische Textform im Gesamtwerk Lukians sowie in der antiken Literatur generell verortet werden. Lukian gelingt es auf virtuose Weise, mit der Verwendung der dikanischen Redeform par excellence das öffentliche Prestige und den Erfolgsweg des Sophisten in der Kaiserzeit darzustellen. Gleichzeitig karikiert er die zeitgenössische rhetorische Praxis, indem er absurde Anlässe und Szenarien entwirft. Lukian verteidigt so nicht ohne Selbstironie auch sein eigenes literarisches Programm gegen (imaginäre) Ankläger und Kritiker.

Dissecting Regulatory Interactions of RNA and Protein
The work described in this book is an excellent example of interdisciplinary research in systems biology. It shows how concepts and approaches from the field of physics can be efficiently used to answer biological questions and reports on a novel methodology involving creative computer-based analyses of high-throughput biological data.
