From Our Side
From Our Side is a collaborative effort of younger scholars in southern Africa and the Netherlands who are interested in the relationship between development and ethics, from a Christian point of view. The 17 chapters that make up the book have been produced through a unique set of partnerships, in which the authors have intentionally worked with practitioners who are working in the development arena. The essays were also shared in a number of settings with the authors, so that they have also benefited from this creative partnership process, and these partnerships have embraced people in both the South and the North, signalling a desire for a global dialogue led by Africa on matters which have a strong impact upon the continent.

ÿThis volume of essays forms part of a series on the interface between ecumenical theology and social ethics in the (South) African context. This contribution is the result of a public conference hosted at the University of the Western Cape in May 2013 under the same title. It explores the quest for identity in so-called mainline churches in South Africa, given the history of the establishment of various denominations of mainly European origin in Southern Africa, ecumenical efforts to find common ground between such churches and breakaway movements among independent and Pentecostal churches where this search for identity is evidently found wanting.

Remembering the Holocaust in a Racial State
The lens of apartheid-era Jewish commemorations of the Holocaust in South Africa reveals the fascinating transformation of a diasporic community. Through the prism of Holocaust memory, this book examines South African Jewry and its ambivalent position as a minority within the privileged white minority. Grounded in research in over a dozen archives, the book provides a rich empirical account of the centrality of Holocaust memorialization to the community’s ongoing struggle against global and local antisemitism. Most of the chapters focus on white perceptions of the Holocaust and reveals the tensions between the white communities in the country regarding the place of collective memories of suffering in the public arena. However, the book also moves beyond an insular focus on the South African Jewish community and in very different modality investigates prominent figures in the anti-apartheid struggle and the role of Holocaust memory in their fascinating journeys towards freedom.
Public Theology in the Secular State
This book gives a persuasive answer to the need for public theology today. Rudolf von Sinner can draw from a rich basis of scholarship and experience related to the topic of public theology. His clear awareness of the contextuality of public theology is the reason for his repeated assurance in this book that we cannot speak about "public theology" but always only of "a" public theology. At the same time it is very clear for him that there is also an "intercontextuality". One of the great strengths of this book is its embeddedness into an international discourse on public theology, with a special emphasis on the South-South exchange. Russel Botman
This celebratory volume tells the story of the late Russel Hayman Botman who died suddenly early in his second term as Rector and Vice-Chancellor of Stellenbosch University. Botman's story is told from his earliest childhood years until his last day as rector. The nature of tributes and celebratory volumes is that it can never be exhaustive. It tells a rich story from limited perspectives. It, however, serves as invitation, stimulus and inspiration to others connected to Botman to also tell their stories about his story.
Protestant Church Polity in Changing Contexts I
Church polity, as a theological discipline, has become increasingly aware of the challenge of contextuality, due to tendencies like secularization in the global North and a renewed awareness of inherited cultural and religious traditions in the global South.
