Modeling of Physiological Flows
This book offers a mathematical update of the state of the art of the research in the field of mathematical and numerical models of the circulatory system. Ebla and its Landscape
The discovery of 17,000 tablets at the mid-third millennium BC site of Ebla in Syria has revolutionized the study of the ancient Near East. This is the first major English-language volume describing the multidisciplinary archaeological research at Ebla. Using an innovative regional landscape approach, the 29 contributions to this expansive volume examine Ebla in its regional context through lenses of archaeological, textual, archaeobiological, archaeometric, geomorphological, and remote sensing analysis. In doing so, they are able to provide us with a detailed picture of the constituent elements and trajectories of early state development at Ebla, essential to those studying the ancient Near East and to other archaeologists, historians, anthropologists, and linguists. "Armstrong begins by examining the particular historical contexts of each novel and the intersecting themes relating to the impact of colonialism such as liminality, mingling of cultures, loss and mourning, and reemergence of repressed history through oral tradition. She then looks at Louise Erdrich's novel Tracks in which the three primary characters respond to their experiences of personal and collective loss in the context of Anishinaabe culture; Erna Brodber's Myal is explored for the impact of the manichean colonial ideology on a Jamaican woman who is literary half-black and half-white. Next is an analysis of Julia O'Faolain's No Country for Young Men a novel about two women, one who lived through the early 20th-century movement for Irish independence and the other who is her great niece. Both have been silenced and sexually controlled by colonialism and patriarchal Catholicism.
