NipPop: 10 anni di cultura pop giapponese in Italia è il frutto di un percorso iniziato nel 2011, un anno dolorosamente indimenticabile per chiunque si occupi di Giappone. L’11 marzo un terremoto al largo delle coste del Tōhoku ha generato un’onda di tsunami che ha causato la morte di oltre 15.000 vittime. Ecco: NipPop è nato da quell’onda, dalla volontà di un gruppo di studenti e di docenti di realizzare un evento che riportasse l’attenzione sul Giappone e sul difficile momento che stava vivendo. Una giornata di solidarietà, che fin da subito ha voluto configurarsi prima di tutto come momento d’incontro, di dialogo, ponendo al centro i ragazzi, che del progetto sono stati il cuore. This book examines how people felt during the hardest times of the pandemic. Exploring the experience of Syrian refugees, the connection between the pandemic and food, and the consequences of major risks in the network society, it discusses the relationships between emotions, vulnerability, poverty, and power in the pre- and post-COVID-19 contexts. The book considers the diverse faces of the pandemic and its consequences, showing it to be an indicator of the vulnerability of various groups of people, while also detailing how medical protocols, statistics, and scientific rationality have replaced the usual market rationality.
This volume collects contributions written by eight authors interested in different research areas in East Asian Studies. Divided into a Japanese and a Chinese section, it explores topics ranging from East Asian literatures to contact linguistics and sociology. The Japanese section contains four essays about contemporary Japanese cinema and different aspects of Japanese modern and contemporary literature (i.e. the literary motif of kame naku, ‘crying turtle’, yuri manga, and tenkō bungaku, the ‘literature of conversion’). The Chinese section concerns two main macro-topics: on the one hand, it focuses on issues related to cultural contacts between Italy and China; on the other hand, it deals with Chinese migration to Italy, highlighting socio-historical aspects and cultural production.
This open-access essay collection brings together a range of viewpoints on gender from a diverse group of international scholars based in Finland, Belgium, Japan, Singapore, and Australia. The focus is, in particular, on gender performativity and non-binary or non-normative gender. The essays examine the ways in which gender can be depicted, perceived, and understood in Japanese popular culture.
