Studies on the educational quality of schools
The priority program 'The educational quality of schools' has been established seven years ago by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The projects in this program investigated conditions inside and outside of school and their impact on the development of mathematical, scientific, and cross-curricular competencies. In this book major findings of the program are presented. The projects not only give an overview of their research questioning methods and findings, but also of approaches and materials that have been developed to support learning and teaching in mathematics and science class rooms. The studies reported here identify factors for weaknesses in the educational outcomes that became apparent in the international comparisons like TIMSS and PISA. The projects, however, provide empirically substantiated units on approaches that can help to improve the educational quality of schools. [Publisher, ed].
Hitler's Black Victims
Drawing on interviews with the black survivors of Nazi concentration camps and archival research in North America, Europe, and Africa, this book documents and analyzes the meaning of Nazism's racial policies towards people of African descent, specifically those born in Germany, England, France, the United States, and Africa, and the impact of that legacy on contemporary race relations in Germany, and more generally, in Europe. The book also specifically addresses the concerns of those surviving Afro-Germans who were victims of Nazism, but have not generally been included in or benefited from the compensation agreements that have been developed in recent years.

International statistics show that the percentage of women studying mathematics and natural sciences varies greatly between different countries and regions of the world. For example, it is much higher in Eastern and Southern European, Arab and South American countries than in the Scandinavian and Central European countries. This monograph explores the great extent to which the female enrollment rate in mathematics and mathematics-related fields varies in different countries and regions of the world, while also investigating the underlying cultural factors that affect women's differential enrollment rates. The analyses include historical, societal, and psychological variables at the level of culture and also suggest that the psychological constructs of attitude and self-concept play an important role in explaining cross-cultural differences in women's enrollment rates

The International Handbook of Science Education is a two volume edition pertaining to the most significant issues in science education. It is a follow-up to the first Handbook, published in 1998, which is seen as the most authoritative resource ever produced in science education. Since 1956 the IASS conference has been organized every other year. In 2016, the 31th IASS conference took place in Groningen (Netherlands).
