John & Martha King share how they pursued their passion for flying by starting their business of teaching pilots. Their courses enabled millions of their customers worldwide to greatly improve their own lives by learning to fly. As teachers of pilots, the Kings have been fortunate to know and learn from many entrepreneurs, some of whom are billionaires, and they have come to deeply appreciate that entrepreneurs are problem-solvers who make life better for nearly everyone they touch. The Kings believe owning your own business will be good for you and you will make it good for society. One of the benefits you will receive is that entrepreneurship develops habits and aptitudes that will facilitate your growth as a person.

Grazia Deledda

This is a timely and extensive biography of a writer who, in the early twentieth century, achieved such status in the literary world that publishers in Italy vied for her novels, and editors felt honoured to publish her short stories and 'sketches'. Now, almost seventy years after her death, her novels continue to be reprinted and translated, and critical appreciation of her work continues to grow. Her works still live and have the power to move her readers.

Fiction. On New York's Lower East Side, the 1960s are just beginning. SEPARATE PARTS (Six Memory Pieces) explores a world of committed, vibrant, and insistently independent artists and writers struggling for freedom from the social limitations of that time. Beginning with her own life and that of her husband, poet/painter Basil King, Martha King doesn't gloss over the personal and political contradictions of the era; the struggles she describes are both heroic and deeply flawed. She shows that even on this rebellious frontier, one doesn't have to look far to find the seeds of contempory corporate New York. Nevertheless, SEPARATE PARTS celebrates a world in which many people believed, often at desperate cost, in the power of art to transform the world.

How well she writes about class, social and political eras. I am reminded of Dawn Powell and Edith Wharton situations so specifically and brilliantly drawn they must be Otrue. We know Babs and Mr. Rich, Tom and the weeping French school-mistress. So interwoven are their contradictions and questions this book seems infinitely longer than it is.Lucia Berlin

Darkness

In sparse prose that echoes the files of a police report, Maraini gives an elegant, resounding voice to the string of victims who receive only too fleeting mention in the media each day. Among them is 12-year-old Viollca, an Albanian immigrant sold into prostitution by her parents through financial desperation; Tano, a boy who brings charges of physical abuse against his father and is only believed two years and the death of his brother later. Linking the collection together is steel nerved, yet tender-hearted Adele-Sofia, a police commissioner working in the underbelly of Rome.

Wills and Administrations of Elizabeth City County, Virginia, 1688-1800, with Other Genealogical and Historical Items

Owing to an unfortunate error in Clayton Torrence's Virginia Wills and Administrations it is widely believed that the early probate records of Elizabeth City County do not exist. This present volume is in large part a correction of that error, and indeed the bulk of it is devoted to abstracts of the county's wills and administrations for the period 1688 to 1800. As an aid to research in the county (now the independent city of Hampton), this work further includes such items as an index to land patents, the quit rent rolls for 1704, tithables of 1782, soldiers of 1776, marriage records, and lists of burgesses, justices, sheriffs, clerks, surveyors, and much else besides.
