Markus Oehlen
This is the first comprehensive monograph on Markus Oehlen which focuses upon his work spanning three decades, from 1981 to 2008. Often associated with the Neue Wilde art movement in Germany his work in painting and sculpture is influenced by other German artists such as Martin Kippenberger, Werner Büttner and Georg Herold. As well as his artistic activities Oehlen was also a musician and in the 1980s he was the former drummer in Fehlfarben, one of the first German punk bands. He is currently a Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. The essays of Wolfgang Ullrich, Harald Falckenberg and Martin Prinzhorn explore Oehlan's art from different perspectives: from the 'line of sight', to the abstract sculptures from styrofoam bodies, to concrete painting in the 1990s. Richly illustrated with over 100 colour images this catalogue was published in association with the Galerie Bärbel Grässlin, Frankfurt am Main, and Galerie Hans Mayer, Düsseldorf. Die Arbeiten von Adriana Czernin (geb. 1969 in Sofia, Bulgarien, lebt und arbeitet in Wien und Rettenegg) sind komplexe Versuchsanordnungen, die die Wahrnehmung von Formen mit der Reflexion über Fragestellungen der Moderne verknüpfen. Die Reduktion, das heißt das Isolieren bestimmter bildnerischer Parameter auf Kosten anderer, stellt dabei einen zentralen Aspekt im Verfahren der Künstlerin dar. Muster werden gespiegelt, verzerrt, de- und reintegriert, Oberflächen prallen spannungs- und konfliktreich zusammen, feste Umrisse (Grafitstift) treffen auf unkontrolliert Zerfließendes (Aquarellfarben). Diese Wiedergewinnung von Vielfalt erlaubt für die jüngste Gruppe von Czernins Arbeiten, Investigation of the Inside, überraschende Übertragungen auf mentale Zustände. Was sich als formales Geschehen beschreiben lässt, drückt auch Physisches und in einer weiteren Übertragung Psychisches aus. Language History and Linguistic Modelling
This work presents a collection of some 130 contributions covering a wide range of topics of interest to historical, theoretical and applied linguistics alike. A major theme is the development of English which is examined on several levels in the light of recent linguistic theory in various papers. The size of things II
This book focuses on the role size plays in grammar. Under the umbrella term size fall the size of syntactic projections, the size of feature content, and the size of reference sets. This Volume II discusses size effects in movement, agreement, and interpretation while the contributions in Volume I focus on size and structure building. Part I of Volume II investigates how size interacts with head movement and various phrasal movement including left branch extraction, object shift, tough movement, and multiple wh movement. Part II of this volume discusses the role size plays in agreement and morphology-related matters like allomorphy. Contributions in Part III focus on semantic-oriented issues, in particular the size of reference domains and NPI licensing. The languages covered in this volume include American Sign Language, Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian and various other Slavic languages, German, Icelandic, dialects of Italian, Japanese, Nancowry, Panoan languages, and Tamil.
