Meeting the Challenge of Social Problems via Agent-Based Simulation

The series of international workshops on Agent-Based Approaches in Economic and Social Complex Systems (AESCS) is part of the worldwide activities on computational social and organizational sciences. The second workshop, AESCS ’02, focusing on progress of agent-based simulation was held in Tokyo in August 2002. AESCS ’02 explored the frontiers of the field. The importance of cumulative progress was emphasized in discussions of common tasks, standard computational models, replication and validation issues, and evaluation and verification criteria. Promoting multidisciplinary work in computational economics, organizational science, social dynamics, and complex systems, AESCS ’02 brought together researchers from diverse fields. This book contains the invited papers by Robert Axtell, Shu-Heng Chen, and Takao Terano, along with selected papers collected in three major sections: Economic Systems, Marketing and Management, and Social Systems and Methodology.

The Munda group of languages of the Austroasiatic family are spoken within central and eastern India by almost ten million people. To date, they are the least well-known and least documented languages of the Indian subcontinent. This unprecedented and original work draws together a distinguished group of international experts in the field of Munda language research and presents current assessments of a wide range of typological and comparative-historical issues, providing agendas for future research. Representing the current state of Munda Linguistics, this volume provides detailed descriptions of almost all of the languages in the family, in addition to a brief chapter discussing the enigmatic Nihali language.

This book thoroughly prepares intermediate-level readers for research in social science, organization studies, economics, finance, marketing science, and business science as complex adaptive systems. It presents the advantages of social simulation studies and business intelligence to those who are not familiar with the computational research approach, and offers experienced modelers various instructive examples of using agent-based modeling and business intelligence approaches to inspire their own work. In addition, the book discusses cutting-edge techniques for complex adaptive systems using their applications. To date, business science studies have focused only on data science and analyses...

Process and Language

The present book is a comprehensive and detailed study of the semantics of verbs in Sanskrit as presented by Patanjali in his commentary Mahabhasya on Astadhyayi 1.3.1 bhuvadayo dhatavah. Vedic and Sanskrit Historical Linguistics

This volume contains 10 articles based on papers presented at the Linguistics sessions of the 13th World Sanskrit Conference (Edinburgh, July 2006) and shows the engagement of scholars with all aspects of Vedic Grammar, including phonology, inflectional and derivational morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicography, and stylistics. In many cases the articles constitute integral parts of long-term research projects of their authors that are ongoing even at this date of publication and therefore present the broad sweep of the field of Vedic linguistics as it is currently being practiced. The contributions include two on phonology (Kobayashi and Kummel), two on morphology (Garcia Ramon and Tucker...

Since the onset of global crisis in recent years, academics and economic theorists from various political and cultural backgrounds have been drawn to Marx's analysis of the inherent instability of capitalism. The rediscovery of Marx is based on his continuing capacity to explain the present. In the context of what some commentators have described as a "Marx renaissance", the aim of this book is to make a close study of Marx's principal writings in relation to the major problems of our own society, and to show why and how some of his theories constitute a precious tool for the understanding and critique of the world in the early twenty-first century. The book brings together varied reflection...
