Hepatobiliary cancers, encompassing biliary tract cancer (BTC) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are highly lethal. Biliary tract cancer is a deadly disease with a very low five-year survival rate. BTC is assumed to be the fifth most common gastrointestinal malignancy and can be categorized into extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (EHC), intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IHC) and gallbladder cancer (GBC), based on the anatomic location.
