A Milano, la sera del 14 febbraio il maestro Piccinini, detto Pirletta, decide di gettarsi nel Naviglio. il tentativo di suicidio è sventato dal ragionier Pistoletti, detto Philologus, un morto in permesso speciale. Salvatore e salvato incontrano due belle signorine, tanto attraenti quanto sfortunate. Nell’osteria “da Amleto” si sviluppa un’allegra convivialità.
