Ethiopian Scribal Practice 7
There are many stories to tell about the Ethiopic manuscripts in the collection of the Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa. The stories about the content of the manuscripts are told in the catalogue (EMTS volume 13). But this volume recounts stories about the book culture that produced the manuscripts. One study provides a general introduction to Ethiopian Christian codicology and the scribal practices in evidence in the collection. Another focuses on the particular story of scribal errors and corrections. Catalogue of the Ethiopic Manuscript Imaging Project
The Catalogue of the Ethiopic Manuscript Imaging Project (EMIP), volume 7, provides a full catalog for the collection of fifty-four manuscripts in the Meseret Sebhat Le-Ab collection at Mekane Yesus Seminary in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. These include one late fifteenth- or early sixteenth-century manuscript of Jubilees and the Minor Prophets. Each catalog entry provides a full physical description, a listing of contents (with incipits), illuminations, varia (known works added later), notes on codicology and scribal practice, as well as a full quire map. Opening articles provide an introduction to the collection, a biography of AlŠqa Meseret's life and work, an introduction to the Ethiopian musical tradition of Saint Yared, and a study on the textual character of the manuscript of Jubilees. Four indices (works, names, miniatures, and scribal practice) provide quick access for the researcher.

A Handlist of the Manuscripts in the Institute of Ethiopian Studies, Volume Two
This book provides a handlist of the Islamic codices hosted in the library of the Institute of Ethiopian Studies at the University of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia). Theirs is one of the most important collections of Islamic manuscripts in the horn of Africa. Almost totally unexplored, the collection contains many valuable examples of the rich and variegated manuscript tradition of the Ethiopian Muslims. Each entry describes the main physical features and the most important texts contained in the codex. The catalogue includes a detailed analysis of a selection of watermarked papers and bindings--richly illustrated with pictures from the manuscripts. An extensive appendix contains over eighty plates of paleographical samples of dated manuscripts. Several indices (titles of the works, personal and place names, etc.) facilitate the usage of the handlist for further research.
Tied and Bound: a Comparative View on Manuscript Binding
The present volume contains twelve chapters authored by specialists of Asian, African and European manuscript cultures reflecting on the cohesion of written artefacts, particularly manuscripts. The War Scroll, Violence, War and Peace in the Dead Sea Scrolls and Related Literature
This volume is a collection of essays written in honour of Martin G. Abegg from a range of contributors with expertise in Second Temple Jewish literature in reflection upon Prof. Abegg’s work. These essays are arranged according to four topics that deal with various aspects of text, language and interpretation of the Qumran War Scroll, and concepts of war and peace in Second Temple Jewish literature. The contents of the volume are divided into the following four main sections: (1) The War Scroll, (2) War and Peace in the Hebrew Scriptures, (3) War and Peace in the Dead Sea Scrolls, and (4) War and Peace in early Jewish and Christian texts and interpretation.
From Dust to Digital
Much of world’s documentary heritage rests in vulnerable, little-known and often inaccessible archives. Many of these archives preserve information that may cast new light on historical phenomena and lead to their reinterpretation. But such rich collections are often at risk of being lost before the history they capture is recorded. This volume celebrates the tenth anniversary of the Endangered Archives Programme at the British Library, established to document and publish online formerly inaccessible and neglected archives from across the globe. From Dust to Digital showcases the historical significance of the collections identified, catalogued and digitised through the Programme, bringing together articles on 19 of the 244 projects supported since its inception. These contributions demonstrate the range of materials documented — including rock inscriptions, manuscripts, archival records, newspapers, photographs and sound archives — and the wide geographical scope of the Programme. Many of the documents are published here for the first time, illustrating the potential these collections have to further our understanding of history.
The Bible in Ethiopia
The Ethiopic version provides a window into the state of the Greek Bible as it circulated in East Africa at the end of the fourth century. It is, therefore, an extremely important witness to the Bible's early transmission history, yet its testimony has typically been ignored or misunderstood by text critics. This study examines the history of the book of Acts in Ethiopia and reconstructs its earliest attainable text, which then is assessed using the latest text-critical methods. It therefore provides a solid base for interpreting the data of this key witness and lays the groundwork for future text-critical work in Ethiopic and other early versions.
