Computational Drama Analysis
Dramatic texts come with a natural structure of acts, scenes and speech clearly assigned to characters that lends itself to computational analysis: These explicit structures allow for straightforward formalizations without extensive preparatory work. Work on drama has therefore always been at the forefront of research in computational literary studies, with its pioneers analyzing drama quantitatively long before the digital age. Today, increasingly large digital text corpora are available and computational literary studies aims at a higher-scaled view on literary history, promising to analyze thousands of literary texts simultaneously. After decades of exploring the possibilities offered by computational methods, the field is now undergoing a phase of consolidation that takes stock of achievements and opportunities and critically reflects the computational methods and interpretations derived from data. Building on insights from the fields' tradition and current research approaches, this volume provides an overview of the status quo of computational drama analysis and explores possible routes for the future.
Annotations in Scholarly Editions and Research
The term ‘annotation’ is associated in the Humanities and Technical Sciences with different concepts that vary in coverage, application and direction but which also have instructive parallels. This publication mirrors the increasing cooperation that has been taking place between the two disciplines within the scope of the digitalization of the Humanities. It presents the results of an international conference on the concept of annotation that took place at the University of Wuppertal in February 2019. Multiword expressions in lexical resources
This volume contains chapters that paint the current landscape of the multiword expressions (MWE) representation in lexical resources, in view of their robust identification and computational processing. Both large-size general lexica and smaller MWE-centred ones are included, with special focus on the representation decisions and mechanisms that facilitate their usage in Natural Language Processing tasks. The presentations go beyond the morpho-syntactic description of MWEs, into their semantics. One challenge in representing MWEs in lexical resources is ensuring that the variability along with extra features required by the different types of MWEs can be captured efficiently. In this respect, recommendations for representing MWEs in mono- and multilingual computational lexicons have been proposed; these focus mainly on the syntactic and semantic properties of support verbs and noun compounds and their proper encoding thereof.

Genre Analysis and Corpus Design
This work in the field of digital literary stylistics and computational literary studies is concerned with theoretical concerns of literary genre, with the design of a corpus of nineteenth-century Spanish-American novels, and with its empirical analysis in terms of subgenres of the novel. The digital text corpus consists of 256 Argentine, Cuban, and Mexican novels from the period between 1830 and 1910. It has been created with the goal to analyze thematic subgenres and literary currents that were represented in numerous novels in the nineteenth century by means of computational text categorization methods. To categorize the texts, statistical classification and a family resemblance analysis relying on network analysis are used with the aim to examine how the subgenres, which are understood as communicative, conventional phenomena, can be captured on the stylistic, textual level of the novels that participate in them.

Deutschsprachige Erzähltexte des Mittelalters verbinden das Problemfeld von Herrschaft und sozialer Ordnung oft mit der Darstellung rednerischer Kompetenz. Für Fürsten und herrschaftsnahe Eliten erscheint Eloquenz als zentrale Bedingung erfolgreichen Regierens. Über den Begriff der ‚erzählten Oratorik‘ untersucht diese Studie die narrative Inszenierung politischer Rede zwischen dem 13. und frühen 15. Jahrhundert, am Beispiel von Ulrichs von Etzenbach Alexanderroman, Ottokars von Steiermark Steirischer Reimchronik und Heinrich Wittenwilers Ring. Die Monografie verbindet Ansätze der germanistischen Mediävistik mit Perspektiven aus der Geschichtswissenschaft, der Rhetorikforschung und der politischen Philosophie. Sie schlägt ein heuristisches Modell vor, das zwischen Darstellung, Repräsentation und Praxis als Untersuchungsdimensionen politischer Oratorik unterscheidet. So wird deutlich: Anders als vielfach angenommen, bricht die Tradition politischer Rede nach der Antike nicht ab – sie entwickelt genuin mittelalterliche Formen.

Mehrsprachenlernen in gesellschaftlichen und institutionellen Kontexten
Dieser Band stellt einzelne Lebens- und Lernbereiche rund um Mehrsprachigkeit und Mehrsprachenlernen vor: gesellschaftliche Mehrsprachigkeit sowie schulisches und universitäres Mehrsprachenlernen. Es beleuchtet den Komplex der Herkunftssprachen im Verhältnis zur Umgebungs- und Zielfremdsprache Deutsch, diskutiert Gesamtsprachencurricula, und betrachtet die Sprachenarbeit mit Geflüchteten. Alle Beiträge sind solide wissenschaftlich fundiert, richten sich sprachlich an Studierende und veranschaulichen alle Sachverhalte durch Beispiele, nicht nur aus deutschsprachigen Ländern, sondern auch aus anderen, um zu verdeutlichen, dass Mehrsprachenlernen ein globales Phänomen mit je ähnlichen oder auch ganz unterschiedlichen Herausforderungen und Vorzügen ist, welches es wert ist, sich damit auseinanderzusetzen. Kultur und Technik
Die Herausforderungen, die mit dem wissenschaftlichen Schlagwort der Interdisziplinarität einhergehen, treten insbesondere dann zutage, wenn große Fächerkulturen aufeinanderstoßen. Inwiefern Geisteswissenschaften auf der einen und Ingenieurwissenschaften auf der anderen Seite miteinander ins Gespräch kommen können, wurde neun Jahre lang im von der DFG geförderten Graduiertenkolleg "Kunst und Technik" ausgelotet. Ausgehend von diesem Verbund entstanden zahlreiche Forschungsideen, -konzepte und -arbeiten. Dieser Band versammelt Einblicke in ausgewählte Projekte, die in diesem Sinne interdisziplinäre Perspektiven einnehmen und zeigt somit die Vielfalt der Wissenschaft im Spannungsfeld von Kultur und Technik auf.
