Farce Forward - Volume 1
An ex-colleague, a school librarian, once told me, much to my surprise, that quite a lot of children came into the library at lunch-time to read plays, but that there were not so many available. I therefore offer this set of 5 plays partially to fill the gap, whether merely for reading or even for performing. They range from the first two fairly simple ones, 'The Vase' and 'Neighbours' to the more complicated such as' Aline's Dream' and 'Mr. Far West'. You may note some familiar themes, which I may deliberately or not have borrowed. Aline is definitely not Dorothy, although 'Little Red Robin Hood' and 'Little Horrors' echo some of the ideas in my straightforward stories in 'Colin the Librarian'. The plays may sometimes seem to have serious ideas, such as loyalty and betrayal, but generally they are tongue-in-cheek and intended as (hopefully) a bit of fun. My own favourites are the rather spare 'Pythonesque', and to my mind, especially 'The Haunted Bedroom' with its spooky ending. However, I humbly offer them for you (once again hopefully) to enjoy.
Colin and the Little Prince
Read how Mr. Jellysox got his strange name, how Billy gets into a lot of trouble at school but how M, his invisible emu, helps him to get out of a tricky situation involving a large beaker of water and some unpleasant Sixth Formers. Also see how M spooks the culprits. Moreover, who is the Sixth Musketeer? Olivia takes on the role as Olivier, and as Colin's trainee musketeer defeats the second best swordsman in the whole of France. Finally on a speeding express train Olivia and Colin prevent Princess Katrina and her brother Peter from being kidnapped, whilst Colin and M divert the train elsewhere. As expected, in every story in which he appears M never misses a chance to produce his own brand of comical antics.
The Pharaoh Awakes! And Other Stories
Arguably Colin's most exciting and dramatic adventure yet! In Ancient Egypt he foils a plot by the young pharaoh's evil uncle to turn him into a mummy while he is still alive. Colin in the guise of the god Anubis and seemingly floating in mid-air, for he is seated on M, the invisible, computer-generated emu’s back, orchestrates the young ruler’s awakening and arising from the open sarcophagus at his burial ceremony. Another fantastic book of stories about M, the invisible computer-generated emu. In this collection, we visit Switzerland (and have a scary cable-car encounter), time-travel to 1960s Manchester, joust with King Henry the Eighth and see some highly amusing magic. Colin in Racing Colours
At Aintree just before the Grand National race sometime in the 1950s Colin is mistaken for a top jockey. The magic bookmark steers him through the big race aided by M, who jumps the fences too, actually finishing ahead of Colin's winning horse Elvis. To Olivia's amazement Colin's grandad, the real jockey appears. He is the spitting image of Colin! 'The Thorpeness Monster' is M in disguise. The magic Phoenix bookmark plays a joke on Olivia and Colin. In the quaint Suffolk village they foil a pair of rather nasty brothers. 'Colin in the Blitz' sees Colin, Sammy and M involved in rescuing people from a bombed building in the London Blitz of 1940. This leads to Colin meeting a V.I.P. 'Saving John Scorbo' finds Colin and co. once again at Aintree. This time they rescue John Scorbo and Grandad from the Creepy Crawley Gang. M provides an astounding 'walking' grandfather clock climax before Grandad and Colin swap roles to keep their identities secret - even from their friends!
Colin's Nightmare
Colin the librarian is an unremarkable little man, who one day at work finds a very rare, very unusual book. It does not belong to the library. An Emu at War
In these further adventures of M, the invisible computer-generated emu, read how the Smogg family get their come- uppance, M and Colin the librarian visit Sherwood Forest, the gang get transported to France during World War 2 and how an arrogant RAF officer is thwarted. Back to School with an Emu
This fantastic edition to the Colin the Librarian series contains three new exciting stories. Colin at Grumples or Back to School Colin and M find themselves at Grumples Academy in the 1920s. This expensive private school with poor facilities and extremely bad teaching is run by the formidable Dr. Scrote, who is only interested in discipline. Colin in his role as a 12 year old boy becomes the friend of Harry Barking. In a series of hilarious scrapes Colin and M rescue Harry more than once.
