The basic theme of this book is to understand the fundamentals and importance of porous functional materials, their properties, and significant applications like solar cells, batteries, photovoltaics, energy conversions, and mesoporous materials. This book covers the fundamentals of mesoporous materials, and various methods of synthesis, properties, and applications in different sectors.
Mesoporous materials are a class of molecules with a large and uniform pore size, highly regular nanopores, and a large surface area. This book is devoted to all aspects and types of these materials and describes, in an in-depth and systematic manner, the step-by-step synthesis and its mechanism, as well as the characterization, morphology control, hybridization, and applications, of mesoporous molecular sieves. In so doing, it covers silicates, metal-doped silicates, nonsilicates, and organic-inorganic hybrids. Although the emphasis is on synthesis, the expert authors also discuss characterization and applications, ranging from catalysis and biochemistry to optics and the use of these materials as templates for nanomaterial synthesis. Both the fundamentals and the latest research results are covered, ensuring that this monograph serves as a reference for researchers in and newcomers to the field.
Nowadays, microporous and mesoporous materials are versatile solids of great interest due to their structures and pore sizes, which allow their application in many areas. Accordingly, with IUPAC, materials with pore sizes smaller than 2 nm are called microporous and with pore sizes between 2 and 50 nm are called mesoporous. The pore size has an important impact on the material properties and affects their applications. In addition, high surface area, and their ability to incorporate functional groups on the framework are of great relevance for commercial and science applications. This book intends to provide readers with a comprehensive overview of recent improvements in the microporous and mesoporous materials field.
Innovation through specific and rational design and functionalization has led to the development of a wide range of mesoporous materials with varying morphologies (hexagonal, cubic, rod-like), structures (silicates, carbons, metal oxides), and unique functionalities (doping, acid functionalization) that currently makes this field one of the most exciting in materials science and energy applications. This book focuses primarily on the rapid progress in their application in energy conversion and storage technologies, including supercapacitor, Li-ion battery, fuel cells, solar cells, and photocatalysis (water splitting) and will serve as a valuable reference for researchers in the field

The aim of this book has been to explore the variety of phenomena associated with the major forms of the material, while laying the foundation for a clear and detailed working and understanding of the materials. We tried to present new types of advanced materials, which are currently a hot topic, and provide readers with a selective review of important improvements in the field. I believe that every chapter in this book presents the progress in the subject and describes the latest advances in microporous and mesoporous materials.
Mesoporous materials are capturing great interest thanks to their exceptional surface area, uniform and tunable pore size, ease surface functionalization, thus enabling broad series of intervention in the field of nanomedicine. Since many years, these aspects foster a deep investigation on mesoporous nanoparticles, to design and fabricate biocompatible, smart and stimuli-responsive nanotools for controlled drug- or gene-delivery, theranostics applications, in particular for cancer therapy, and tissue engineering. This Book is thus dedicated to the most recent advances in the field, collecting research papers and reviews. It spans from the synthesis and characterization of the mesoporous material, especially those made of silica, silicon and bioactive glasses, to their functionalization with smart gate-keepers, reporter molecules or targeting ligands, up to their in-vitro applications in the nanomedicine field.
Zeolites are the most frequently used industrial catalysts. Their applications range from oil refining, petrochemistry and the synthesis of special chemicals to environmental catalysis. Rapid progress in basic research and the development of new processes has resulted in the first Federation of European Zeolite Associations (FEZA) School on Zeolites. Zeolites and Ordered Mesoporous Materials: Progress and Prospects reflects the programme of the first School on Zeolites, held in Prague on August 20-21, 2005. Readers gain insight into the synthesis of the ever-expanding spectrum of zeolites, zeotypes and ordered mesoporous materials including the use of zeolites and mesoporous materials as cat...
This is the first volume of the four volume set of Comprehensive Guide for Mesoporous Materials. The discovery and application of mesoporous materials in the different industries, including the catalyst industry, is one of the major advances over the past two decades. One of the important mesoporous materials is zeolite. Over the past decade, different types of zeolites have been produced in the nanometer range dimensions. Porosities can also be regular or irregular. Due to more research done on mesoporous materials, knowledge of this science has increased. Researchers are now able to make mesoporous materials with dimensions equal to the predetermined requirements to use in engineering, such as with molecular separation membranes. This volume mainly discusses the synthesis and characterization of mesoporous materials. Some of the mesoporous materials discussed in this volume are alumina, carbon, silica and also polymeric materials. There are 15 chapters in this volume; each one includes examples of these interesting materials, supported by appropriate figures for better clarification.
This is the third volume of the four volume set of Comprehensive Guide for Mesoporous Materials, mainly discussing different properties and the development of mesoporous materials. Many applications for these materials have been recognized. Ultra precision methods also developed for commercialization of these materials. Like many nanostructured materials, mesoporous materials are also found in abundance in nature, such as in cell walls that are made of mesoporous membranes although they are much more complicated. During past decades in the oil industry, natural mesoporous materials known as zeolites are widely used. However, most of them are now produced artificially.
