Galka Scheyer A Jewish Woman in International Art Business Schriftenreihe der Bet Tfila - Forschungsstelle für jüdische Architektur in Europa - Band 13 Katrin Keßler (Ed.) Galka (Emmy E.) Scheyer (1889-1945) was an extraordinary woman: Jewish, painter, art collector, and mediator. After meeting the Bauhaus artists Alexej von Jawlensky, Lyonel Feininger, Wassily Kandinsky, and Paul Klee, she founded the artists' group "The Blue Four" along with them. To promote her "four kings" not only in Europe, she emigrated to the US in 1924. Scheyer organized exhibitions and gave lectures all over the world. The -famous architect Richard Neutra designed a gallery building for her in the Hollywood Hills, where she lived and welcomed art collectors and Hollywood's high society, including -Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Fritz Lang, and Josef von Sternberg. She died in Hollywood in 1945. This volume presents the papers held at the Galka Scheyer international conference in Braunschweig, the city of her birth, in November, 2019.
Helgonskåp
Tabernacle shrines - enclosures containing a single saint's effigy equipped with two, four or more wings - are a neglected form of medieval altar decoration. Although they were common across the Latin West, surviving examples are spread very unevenly over Europe. Most of the c. 500 preserved tabernacle shrines are found in Central Italy, Northern Spain, across Germany, and particularly in Scandinavia. More than one-third of the total European stock is preserved in Sweden, making it the only country where the entire development of such 'Helgonskåp' ('saints' cupboards') can still be gleaned. Departing from the Swedish wealth, this study explores the tabernacle shrine as a European phenomenon in medieval art. The first chapters distinguish and analyse seven different types of tabernacle shrine, while the last sections focus on the object type as an artistic category, as a physical object in medieval church space, and on its remarkable survival in Lutheran Sweden.
The Bloemaert Effect
Celebrating the father of the Utrecht School, this record delves into the life of the extraordinary Dutch painter Abraham Bloemaert. A concise biography illustrates how he formed and experienced at least three important styles of art in his time: mannerism, Caravaggism, and classicism, producing works in nearly all possible genres. A presentation of this obscure artist’s accomplishments in a fantastic exhibition, this work demonstrates why Bloemaert had such a wide influence on painting in the northern Netherlands of the 17th century. Exploring his role as a teacher in addition to his exceptional talent for drawing, this book also examines the Utrecht specialty of painting cycles as well as specific pieces by Bloemaert, such as his altarpieces, religious and mythological works, genre scenes, landscapes, and still lifes.

Faces of China
Faces of China is the first exhibition explicitly dedicated to Chinese portrait painting. The selection of more than 100 paintings from the collections of the Palace Museum Beijing and the Royal Ontario Museum Toronto, most of which have never been shown in Europe, spans a period of more than 500 years. The main focus is on the unique portraits of the Qing Dynasty, including images of members of the imperial court, ancestors, and military figures. An extensive catalog will accompany the exhibition.
