Within the last three decades, interest in the psychological experience of human faces has drawn together cognitive science researchers from diverse backgrounds. Computer scientists talk to neural scientists who draw on the work of mathematicians who explicitly influence those conducting behavioral experiments. The chapters in this volume illustrate the breadth of the research on facial perception and memory, with the emphasis being on mathematical and computational approaches. In pulling together these chapters, the editors sought to do much more than illustrate breadth. In this important theoretical treatist, Jean Lave, anthropologist, and Etienne Wenger, computer scientist, push forward the notion of situated learning - that learning is fundamentally a social process. The authors maintain that learning viewed as situated activity has as its central defining characteristic a process they call legitimate peripheral participation (LPP). Learners participate in communities of practitioners, moving toward full participation in the sociocultural practices of a community. LPP provides a way to speak about crucial relations between newcomers and old-timers and about their activities, identities, artefacts, knowledge and practice. Johann Mathias Hütwohl (1711-1776) was born in Steeg, Germany, the son of John Georg Hütwohl. In 1744 he married Anna Christina and in 1748 they, along with two daughters, sailed for America. Anna Christina and the daughters died at sea. Johann arrived in Philadelphia and settled in the Conestoga valley. In 1765 he married a Miss Haas, and they became the parents of six children. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, and elsewhere in the United States, and throughout Canada.

The most recent version of the tech. standard, the Voluntary Voting System Guidelines of Aug. 2007, contains requirements for the usability of documentation used by poll workers and election support staff. The approach to testing these requirements has two components: (1) Style guide incorporating best practices for voting system documentation; (2) Test protocol for voting system test labs. to use to measure the usability of instructions supplied by voting system manufacturers for election workers. This style guide sets out guidelines for voting system manufacturers to use to implement best practices in their documentation for poll workers and election support staff.
