Shaped Beam Radiosurgery

NovalisĀ® Shaped Beam Radiosurgery has set new standards by delivering highly precise radiation treatments to tumors anywhere in the body through the use of a proprietary multileaf collimator. By shaping the radiation beam to the exact contours of the tumor or lesion, Novalis permits maximum dose delivery to the entire tumor while protecting healthy tissue; this makes it eminently suitable for the treatment of irregularly shaped tumors. This book provides a complete guide to radiosurgery treatments with Novalis. After a thorough discussion of the clinical and technical basis for Shaped Beam Radiosurgery, current clinical applications are considered in detail, including brain, body, skull base, and spinal tumors as well as arteriovenous malformations. Careful consideration is also given to future developments and applications, including new technologies that promise to offer even more accurate treatments. This state-of-the-art book will appeal to a wide audience of physicians and their multidisciplinary clinical and technical collaborators.

Radiosurgery

How to avoid and manage complications in stereotactic radiosurgery? The most current and exciting developments as well as essential findings on refinements are published in this new volume. It addresses topics such as benign and malignant tumor radiosurgery, trigeminal neuralgia and headache, spectroscopic imaging, new hardware assessments, extracranial radiosurgery, and vascular malformations. The high-quality peer-reviewed reports were presented by experts in their field at the 2003 meeting of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society. This publication is of special interest to neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, neurologists, and oncologists, who require precise information to keep up to date with the important developments on the use of stereotactic radiosurgery.

Radiosurgery

This publication reflects the most current and exciting developments in the field of stereotactic radiosurgery today. It marks the second volume in the book series 'Radiosurgery', which is the official peer-reviewed publication of the International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society. This latest volume includes long-term data on benign tumors, and evaluations on the role of whole-brain fractionated radiation therapy in patients with solitary metastases. Multicenter studies, methods to evaluate our data, grading scales, and novel irradiation approaches, together with technological improvements, characterize the new drive in this direction and form an important part of this book. It provides a ...

Combined Modality Therapy of Central Nervous System Tumors

The American Cancer Society anticipates that 16,500 patients will be diagnosed with primary malignant tumors of the central nervous system in 2000, with about 200,000 individuals presenting with brain metastases. The advances in the treatment of solid tumors have contributed significantly to the major increase in metastatic cancers to the brain. Of the primary malignant tumors of the brain, more than 50% are high-grade gliomas; the incidence has been increasing among older patients over the past decade. Major developments in new technologies in the treatment of primary brain tumors as well as metastatic disease are covered in depth. Even though management is difficult, advances are being made. This book is a concerted effort to present data regarding basic science research efforts alongside their translation into clinical practice using combined, integrated multimodal programs of treatment. Progress has been made, but innovatice approaches need to be pursued.

The search for effective treatment of neuroblastoma has stimulated an enormous increase in research, conducted in order to achieve a better understanding of the cellular and genetic basis of this unique class of tumor in children and adults. Providing a broad and comprehensive examination of recent advances in this field, this volume focuses on basic and clinically-related laboratory research, with a concentration on molecular genetics, cell biology, differentiation and innovative therapies.
